    A journalist from Cleethorpes who had a heart attack at work last November has successfully campaigned for four new defibrillators to be installed in the town.

    Vince McDonagh was given an electric shock by paramedics to get his heart back into a rhythm before being taken to hospital.

    He and his colleagues raised money towards the cost of the defibrillators, which they hope will save lives in the future.

    An inquest has heard a driver who crashed into a wall when he was being followed by police was more than two and a half times over the legal drink drive limit.

    The hearing, in front of a jury, has been told how John McKeown, who was 62, died after the incident in Stamford in August 2015

    His death is also the subject of an inquiry by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The inquest is expected to last two days.

    Final preparations are being made to get a Lincolnshire miniature railway moved to its new home.

    The Evergreens Miniature Railway was forced to move from Stickney, near Boston, after new owners took on the land where it's based.

    A deal's been struck with a caravan park in Ulceby Cross, near Alford - after an appeal on BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

  5. Reel life: New cinema in Grantham set to get go-aheadpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    Permission for a new cinema in Grantham is expected to be granted later.

    South Kesteven District Council had previously given consent for a six-screen cinema in St Catherine's Road to replace the existing cinema (above).

    Now, councillors will be asked to reduce the number of screens from the original six to five.

    The building will be smaller than originally planned but will still include restaurant units and car parking.

    Library use in Lincolnshire has gone up since controversial changes were made over their running.

    Councillors have been told that visits to 15 core branches now run by not-for-profit firm Greenwich Leisure rose by 80,000 in the nine months to March.

    The number of books being borrowed went up by 40,000.

  8. Lincolnshire grass-to-gas scheme wins awardpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    A scheme in Lincolnshire which turns grass cuttings from road verges into energy has won a national award.

    The pilot scheme, which began in May last year, has been named research project of the year at the Biogas Industry awards.

    A special machine (above) is used to cut the grass and suck up the cuttings which are then sent to an anaerobic digester plant which is used to produce gas.

    Lincolnshire County Council says it plans to expand the initiative.

  10. Listen: Charity's fears over children going hungry during holidayspublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

    Children across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire could go hungry during the school summer holidays, a charity has warned.

    In the Yorkshire and Humber region in 2016, the Trussell Trust charity, which runs hundreds of food banks across the UK, gave out 7% more emergency sets of three-day supplies to children during the summer holidays compared to the previous two months.

    The charity puts that down to children not being able to get free school meals.

    It's hoped Lincoln's new multi-storey car park could be finished and open in time for Christmas.

    It's part of the city's new £30m transport hub which also includes a new bus station.

    The car park isn't scheduled to be open until the new year, but officials now say it could be sooner.

    Police are appealing for help to find Muriel Addy, 85, who was last seen yesterday in Norfolk Street, Boston.

    It's believed Muriel, who is also known as Biddy, is still in the local area.

    She was last seen at about 17:00 on Monday.

    She's described as about 5ft tall, of slim build, with grey hair and wearing glasses.

    A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze at a stable building in Louth.

    The fire happened at about 20.15 yesterday on Eastfield Road. Officers say no animals were injured.

    The teenager was later released "under investigation", Lincolnshire Police said.

    Ear, nose and throat (ENT) and urology departments could become centralised in northern Lincolnshire.

    The trust which runs hospitals in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole says both units are currently facing critical staffing shortages.

    They're recommending basing the urology department solely in Scunthorpe, while Grimsby would be home to ENT.

    A decision's expected at a meeting of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust later today.
