The county council says more government funding is needed to deal with the problem.

Richard Davies, who is in charge of roads in the county, says the authority is calling for a better deal.

    Quote Message

As part of the fairer funding campaign for Lincolnshire we're calling on the government to give the same amount of money per head of population to people here in Lincolnshire as they do in Manchester, and that would mean we have over £100m a year to spend on things like pothole repair"

  7. Road to be repaired using 'innovative technique'published at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2018

A road near Boston is to be repaired using a new technique which recycles the existing surface into the new one.

    pothole

Fodderdyke Bank in Midville (pictured) has been the site of numerous fatal accidents over the years which caused a group of schoolchildren to write to the county council requesting the repairs.

The new road surfacing technique means the surface of the road will be crushed and mixed with new material to create a new base layer.

This will then be combined with a steel mesh to prevent the movement of the fenland land causing damage to the roads.

Not only is it quicker than more traditional methods, but it’s also less expensive"

The "quadamaran", as it's been called, has been built by a team from the University of Lincoln and a car dealership in Boston.

They aim to cycle from Boston to Lincoln, and then attach their bikes to the contraption before sailing, if that's the right word, down the River Witham back to Boston.

The trip is planned for 21 July and is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, external.

  12. Auctioneers won't pursue 'mistaken' carousel buyerpublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2018

The person who mistakenly placed a £180,000 bid on a former Lincolnshire theme park carousel will not be pursued by the auctioneers, the BBC understands.

    Carousel

The ride was apparently bought in error by an online bidder during an auction of items from the former Pleasure Island theme park last week.

The ride, dating back to 1904, was among hundreds of items from the former Pleasure Island theme park in Cleethorpes being auctioned-off.

The purchaser claimed he clicked the button to make a bid unintentionally when he went to close his browser.

A campaign has now been launched to buy the carousel and keep it in Cleethorpes, meanwhile the auctioneer says several people have said they're interested in buying it:

Sir Ken was famous for his song Happiness, his "tickling sticks" and for shows which went on hours longer than planned.

He performed at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness many times throughout his career and manager Pollyanne Trapmore-Shaw says she was lucky enough to work with him:

    Quote Message

Afterwards he used to - we termed the phrase - "hold court" in his dressing room and it was the most magical experience. He would invite people back, his true fans and, such a gentleman, he would spend time talking to them and listening to their stories."

  15. Road set for repairs after children's complaintspublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2018

Repairs are planned to a road in Lincolnshire after a group of schoolchildren wrote a letter to the county council explaining how dangerous they think it is.

    Potholes

Children from Midville, near Boston, wrote to the council requesting repairs and a lower speed limit on Fodderdyke Bank Road (pictured) because of the number of accidents on it.

One youngster described the road as "disgraceful" and "so dangerous".

Rowena Thompson, the headteacher at New Leake Primary, said the state of the road was putting parents off choosing the school.

Lincolnshire County Council says it'll now repair the 1,250m long section of the road.

    Quote Message

One parent absolutely loved our school but was really concerned about the state of the road and felt she didn't want to be bringing her children along the road because she felt it wasn't safe."

  16. New research on ancient Lincolnshire castlepublished at 08:15

A new study has been commissioned to learn more about the Lincolnshire birthplace of Henry IV.

    Bolingbroke castleImage source, Castles Trust

Bolingbroke Castle, in Old Bolingbroke, was built in the 13th Century and is regarded as one of the most important of England's castles because of its involvement in the English Civil War.

It was besieged by Parliamentary troops for several days before it finally fell.

Although much of the castle's history is well known, less is understood about the areas surrounding it.

The castle, which is little more than a ruin today, was owned by the House of Lancaster in the 1300s and was one of their seats of power until it was destroyed in the English Civil War.

    Quote Message

The ruins of Bolingbroke Castle are hidden away within the small village of Old Bolingbroke in Lincolnshire, but this is a nationally significant monument. We're delighted that the Castle Studies Trust funding will now allow for these sites to be investigated further.
