    Gas supply firm Cadent has thanked residents of a village near Lincoln for their understanding and kindness after a major fault cut off their supply at the weekend.

    Nearly 2,000 homes in Saxilby lost their gas on Saturday night, with engineers working until last night to reconnect customers.

    The firm says its engineers have been given chocolates by householders grateful for their efforts.

    The firm has even had offers to fundraise for its chosen charity, the Alzheimer's Society.

    The number of hate crimes reported to Lincolnshire Police has risen by 15% in the last five years.

    New figures obtained by the BBC show the number rose by 30 to 229 incidents.

    The BBC investigation asked police forces around the country how many racially and religiously aggravated hate crimes were reported to them.

    All forces have reported rises in the crime since 2013.

  4. Boston Stump's peregrine chick takes first look at worldpublished at 08:56 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    Last month, we mentioned that several new arrivals were expected in the rafters of the Boston Stump sometime soon.

    Rare peregrine falcons had begun nesting in the church intermittently in 2011, but after an absence of three years from 2014 it was thought the birds of prey wouldn't return.

    But more peregrines then began nesting at the top of the landmark Stump in April and hopes were high that we'd soon get to see some chicks.

    Yesterday we told you the first chick had hatched - you can see the footage again below - but now the church tells us the other eggs have hatched successfully too.

    The Rail Future railway campaigning group says train-based park-and-rides could operate between cities and villages.

    Rail Future in Lincolnshire says reopening old stations at places like Langworth and Washingborough, near Lincoln, could help those villages as well as reduce congestion.

    Rail passengers in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are facing more disruption on Northern services as staff take part in more strike action.

    It is the latest action by members of the RMT union in the long-running row over the role of guards.

    The union says scrapping guards and introducing driver-only operated trains risks passenger safety.

    But the rail company has insisted the move is safe and already widely used.

    Northern says it plans to operate 1,300 services today, but about a third of journeys will be disrupted.

    A plan over how Barrow-upon-Humber should be developed over the next 10-15 years has been approved by North Lincolnshire Council.

    The plan comes after a consultation with residents and means the parish council can now work on a full Neighbourhood Plan, which could include setting out where new homes are built or which areas of open space should be protected.

    It can also set out what local facilities will be needed in future.

    A fairground ride in Boston, which broke down leaving passengers stuck in the air, won't be allowed to run again until it's been fully checked and tested, the Showmen's Guild, external has said.

    The leading Labour group on North East Lincolnshire Council has been told it should "step aside" after last week's local council elections.

    Labour were left with a one seat majority on the council and the Conservative MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, external, said the leader of the authority should step-down.

    Mr Vickers said the Labour group had "let people down."

    The Labour group has not yet responded to Mr Vickers' comments.

    A former teacher at a boarding school in Grimsby has been banned from teaching for life.

    Kevin Cooper, 47, had an inappropriate relationship with a girl at the school, a misconduct panel found, external in April.

    Mr Cooper joined St James' School, as a teacher and housemaster, in 2009 and was suspended in 2016 after developing a relationship with the girl.

    The panel found, external the relationship to be sexually motivated.

    The education secretary has backed the panel's ruling and agreed to impose the teaching ban on Mr Cooper.

    Four Lincolnshire Police staff are in Kosovo to train the force there in public order and public safety methods.

    It is part of an EU project set up to improve the rule of law in the Kosova, which has had a troubled past with neighbouring countries.

    The Lincolnshire staff will be in Vushtrri, in the north of the country, for eight days.

    Police officers have been "kicked, punched, elbowed and slapped" over the Bank Holiday weekend on the Lincolnshire coast.

    The force said it is investigating seven cases of assaults on officers while they were attending incidents in Skegness, Wainfleet and Ingoldmells.

    They say all the officers affected have had physical checks and have all returned to work.
