  1. Paraglider crash: Lincolnshire pilot injuredpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    A paraglider injured in a mid-air collision is reported to be a man in his 40s from Lincolnshire.

    The motorised paragliders crashed at Northborough, near Peterborough, at about 08:40 on Monday.

    A man in his 50s, from Peterborough, died at the scene.

    The Peterborough Telegraph reports, external the injured man was taken to Nottingham Hospital by air ambulance with "potentially life-changing" injuries.

    Students are being employed by a college to help them become used to the world of work.

    University Technical College, in Hull, said it was employing students to work in the library and IT centre.

    The students are paid and the work hours are arranged to ensure they don't miss out on their studies.

    A disability swing, costing £12,000, has been vandalised, less than a week after it was installed in a park in Boston.

    Vandals appear to have stolen the bolts which held the safety barrier, designed to protect wheelchair users, in place.

    Police are looking at CCTV footage from the Central Park area to try and find out who was responsible.

  5. 'Check before you travel' - Rail firm's strike warningpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    Rail operator Northern is warning passengers to check before they travel later this week as members of the RMT union are expected to go on strike.

    The industrial action on Wednesday will be part of an ongoing dispute over driver-only-operated trains.

    Northern says it expects to operate about 65% of its normal weekday timetable.

  6. Sunshine causes Waddington bungalow blazepublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    A fire at a house in Waddington yesterday lunchtime is believed to have been started by the sun's rays, according to the fire service.

    The sunlight was magnified by a glass table which was outside near a garden shed at the bungalow on Manor Lane.

    The fire then spread to a bungalow and then a neighbouring property.

    No one was hurt in the blaze.

    If you are travelling by train tonight there are problems between Cleethorpes and Ulceby.

    Northern, external say there is a fault with the signalling system which could lead to cancellations and delays.

    Replacement transport has been requested for some evening services between Cleethorpes and Barton-on-Humber.

    A fairground ride became stuck on Monday, leaving passengers stranded for around an hour.

    The Sky Swing in Boston was eventually fixed and passengers were lowered back to the ground.

    No-one was injured but people were left shaken by the experience and all were given water once on the ground.

    A series of roadshows have been organised to try and urge more people to become foster carers.

    North Lincolnshire Council, external said the shows, in Scunthorpe and Brigg, will give people the chance to learn more about what fostering involves.

    People will also be able to speak to current foster carers.

  10. About 100,000 fish killed in pollution incidentpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    At least 100,000 fish died following a pollution incident in the River Whitham earlier this year, the Environment Agency (EA) says.

    The EA warned the actual figure of fish killed could be "much higher".

    Tests found high levels of ammonia in the water between Bardney and Boston.

    The source of the pollution has been identified but won't be released until the EA has concluded its investigation.

    Business has been booming for traders on Lincolnshire's coast after the hottest ever early May Bank Holiday.

    Temperatures reached 25C (77F) in the county yesterday, hotter than parts of Spain.

    It follows a poor start to the season for out resorts, with bad weather at Easter.

    Dean Carnall, manager of the Pleasure Beach theme park, says he's delighted with the heatwave.

    He says: "It's been fantastic after the battle that was Easter, with the cold weather and everything. It's nice to see all the people back out again."

    Mansion of the Future, a new venue to celebrate the arts, is being launched in Lincoln later.

    The building, which is opposite the city's railway station, has been mainly funded by the Arts Council, external to the tune of £700,000.

    It'll host events such as art classes, workshops and film nights.

    More and more people are getting caught out by quicksand in Cleethorpes, the RNLI is warning.

    It's happened 22 times in the past 12 months, including one incident last week when a woman got stuck up to her waist.

    There are warning signs in Cleethorpes letting people know about the dangers, but it seems some are ignoring those warnings.

    Matt McNally, from the RNLI in Cleethorpes, says: "You can't tell just from looking at the sand if it's safe or not.

    "You can take two steps and be up to your knees or up to your waist in mud."

  15. Man dies in mid-air paraglider collisionpublished at 09:18 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    A man in his 50s has died after a mid-air collision involving two paragliders near Market Deeping.

    It happened at about 08:45 yesterday morning.

    Emergency services were called to Rippons Drove in Northborough.

    The second pilot, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    An investigation is under way.

  16. Hundreds of homes still without gas in Saxilbypublished at 08:52 British Summer Time 8 May 2018

    People in Saxilby are set to receive compensation after their homes were left without gas over the bank holiday weekend.

    Cadent has been working to restore supplies to nearly 2,000 properties after a faulty gas main started causing problems on Saturday night.

    A crew of 50 engineers has been working to turn on supplies, but about 400 properties are still without gas.

    It's hoped it'll be fixed by today.

    Investigations are being held into a house fire in Waddington, near Lincoln.

    Crews were called to Manor Lane at lunchtime yesterday.

    Two bungalows have been damaged, along with sheds and fence panels.

    No one was injured in the blaze.
