  1. Man's body found in Twickenham shipyardpublished at 14:50

    A man's body has been spotted in the water at Swan Island, Twickenham Shipyard, in Twickenham.

    The body was recovered by police at 10:00 GMT today.

    The body has not been formally identified, but police are trying to find Anthony Ojeer, 32, who was last seen leaving a pub in Twickenham on Halloween.

    Mr Ojeer’s next-of-kin have been informed.

  2. Rail line disruption: 'Extremely challenging' morningpublished at 14:40

    Trains to and from Victoria and London Bridge were also badly hit this morning.

    South West Trains have reported similar problems on its London and Surrey branch lines.

    A Southern spokesman apologised to customers and said the morning had been "extremely challenging" and conditions had been "exceptionally poor".

  3. 'Leaf mulch' causing serious rail disruptionpublished at 14:25

    Rail services running in and out of London are seriously disrupted because of "leaf mulch" forming on the tracks, two operators have confirmed.

    Southern Rail, serving South London, has warned of delays of up to 90 minutes for the rest of Tuesday because of leaves on the line.

    The mayor of London is on the second day of a four-day trade visit to the region.

  5. TfL: Number of people injured by buses fallspublished at 13:54

    The number of people involved in incidents with buses has fallen from 2.6 to 2.5 injuries per million passenger journeys over the last six months, according to Transport for London (TfL)., external

    Between the months of July and September, 1,491 people were injured in incidents involving buses, compared with 1,506 between April to June, statistics from TfL said.

    Of the injuries 82% were classified as ‘minor’, and of those 84% were treated at the scene of the incident.

    Mike Weston, TfL’s Director of Buses, said: “We are taking a range of actions, including investing in new safety technology."

  6. Benedict Cumberbatch awarded CBE by the Queenpublished at 13:26

    Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has been honoured with a CBE by the Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace today.

    He received the award for services to the performing arts and to charity.

    As well as playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's adaptation, the 39-year-old actor was nominated for the best actor Oscar for his role as computer scientist Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.

  8. TfL: Third runway impact 'substantially underestimated'published at 13:00

    Transport for London, external (TfL) has told the London Assembly that the Davies Commission report into airport expansion is "substantially underestimating impact of the third runway" at Heathrow.

    TfL said the Davies Commission would require an investment of £15bn / 20bn in new rail links to facilitate the third runway.

  12. Closures in west Ruislip after fatal stabbingpublished at 11:44

    In west London, the High Road, in Ickenham, is closed in both directions between West Ruislip Tube Station and Aylsham Drive following afatal stabbingyesterday. 

    The Met Police said the road was expected to be closed until later this evening.

    The 18-year-old man, who has not yet been formally identified, was wounded near West Ruislip station during Monday's evening rush period.

    Why are leaves causing delays to rail lines? 

    Network Rail, external has explained how leaves compressed by passing trains can create a thin, Teflon-like layer on the rails, so train drivers have to brake earlier when approaching stations and signals to avoid overshooting.

  15. Man dies after west London stabbingpublished at 11:17

    A man has died after he was stabbed in west London.

    The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was attacked at about 17:30 GMT in High Road, Ickenham, close to West Ruislip station, police said.

    A Met spokesman said the victim was taken to a west London hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

    A 14-year-old girl has been charged with actual bodily harm after an 87-year-old woman was punched on a bus in south London.

    Police, external released CCTV showing the alleged assault that happened in Croydon on 16 October on the 166 bus. The pensioner suffered a black eye.

    The teenager has been bailed to appear at Croydon Youth Court on 10 December.
