    A Ukrainian nationalist has been cleared of plotting to blow up the Russian embassy in west London.

    Vadim Bezkorovainiy, 35, filmed himself with home-made Molotov cocktails as he staked out the compound in Kensington Palace Gardens, last March, a court heard.

    The father-of-two claimed he had trawled the internet for explosives in preparation for going back to his home country to fight - not to target the embassy.

    The jury at the Old Bailey found him not guilty of preparing for an act of terrorism.

    Thomas Buxton School, external, in Buxton Street, will be closed until 23 November due to an infestation in the school grounds and building.

     A statement on the school's website said: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience and disruption to family life and also to the children’s learning."

    Osmani School, external, in Vallance Road, is also closed until 16 November due to an infestation.

    Mr Modi has been attending the UK-India CEO forum at number 10 Downing Street with prime minister David Cameron ahead of a lunch at Buckingham Palace and a speech at Wembley Stadium later.

    Mr Modi's appearances have attracted protest over allegations of religious persecution and a reduction in civil liberties since he came to power.

    He said the football pitch had been covered to ensure there is no damage to the ground.

    Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus saved the 43-year-old woman from the home on Beccles Drive in Barking just after 01:00 GMT on Friday.

    Rail workers are to be balloted on industrial action over a dispute with the operator of the Caledonian Sleeper service.

    Aravindan Balakrishnan's daughter confided in her diaries about feeling like a "caged" bird whose "wings have been clipped", Southwark Crown court has heard.

    The jury heard a diary entry she wrote: "I'm always caged up, I feel caged like a wild animal. I have nothing to look forward to, I feel so miserable, so neglected."

    Mr Balakrishnan, 75, of Enfield, north London, denies charges including four counts of rape and seven of indecent assault.

  19. PM: Air strike 'an act of self defence'published at 11:13

    Prime Minister David Cameron has welcomed the US air strike targeting Islamic State group militant "Jihadi John" but stressed it had not yet been confirmed he was dead.

    In a statement, the Prime Minister said: "This was an act of self defence. It was the right thing to do."

    Initially dubbed "Jihadi John" by the media, he was subsequently named as Mohammed Emwazi, from west London, in February.
