  1. Lucian Freud archive acquired by National Portrait Gallery for the nationpublished at 10:44

    An archive of sketchbooks, drawings and letters belonging to artist Lucian Freud has been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery on behalf of the nation.

    Some of the items, never published or exhibited before, are expected to go on display there next summer.

  2. Watch: Weather warning issued as Storm Barney heads our waypublished at 10:18

    The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning. We are expecting to experience some very windy weather later in the day as Storm Barney tracks across the country.

  3. Boy, 16, charged with attempted murder of PCpublished at 10:12

    A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a police constable was stabbed in the stomach in Bow on Sunday night.

    Two officers had attended a car park near Bunsen House after receiving reports of anti-social behaviour, when one of them was injured.

    The Met, external said the PC remains in a "serious but stable condition".

  4. Record number of rogue drivers prosecuted for trying to pick up farespublished at 10:03

    A record number of rogue drivers illegally trying to pick up fares have been prosecuted according to Transport for London, external.

    It said in the past six months it had prosecuted 46 people, with the majority convicted. 

  5. Appeal after man stabbed in buttocks in Islingtonpublished at 09:44

    Police are looking for three men who they believe stabbed a man in the buttocks in Granville Street, Islington, on Friday evening.

    The men chased the 18-year-old and punched and kicked him before stabbing him.

  6. France to show 'greater pride than ever' at Wembleypublished at 09:25

    France's players will represent their country with greater pride than everin tonight's friendly against England, manager Didier Deschamps has said.

    The game comes four days after a total of 129 people were killed in attacks across the French capital, Paris.

    He said: "We are here to represent our country and its colours blue, white and red with even more pride than we normally would. I will cry when Wembley sings La Marseillaise." 

  7. Nearly 100,000 men sexually assaulted in Londonpublished at 09:15

    Nearly 100,000 sexual assaults or rapes were carried out against men across London between 2010 and 2014 according to the Conservatives on the Greater London Authority, external.

    The figures showed that just 4% of those assaults, largely involving heterosexual men, were actually reported.

    The Tories are now calling for more specially trained officers and greater signposting to encourage male victims to come forward.

  8. Met chief wants to double armed officer numberspublished at 08:57

    Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe

    Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe wants to double the number of armed officers in London in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. 

    He has said he expects to have to slash 5,000 officers from his 32,000-strong force to cope with austerity cuts likely to total £800 million over four years following Chancellor George Osborne's spending review later this month. 

    Sir Bernard moved to reassure Londoners the number of firearms officers in the capital is being reviewed following the massacres across Paris in which 129 people were killed. 

    He said London was proud to be one of few mostly unarmed forces around the world; however, the Paris attacks showed the need for change.

  9. Wembley: Duke of Cambridge and Boris Johnson to join supporterspublished at 08:37

    The Duke of Cambridge and London Mayor Boris Johnsonwill join football fans tonight at Wembley when England host France. 

    It is being reported that the sale of tickets for the event increased after the Paris attacks with people wanting to show their solidarity.

  10. Latest travel: Delays on the A4 and A1261published at 08:18

    BBC Travel

    One lane is blocked and there are long delays on the A4 in Hammersmith at Barons Court, due to a broken down taxi. It's causing congestion back to the M4 elevated section junction and the M4 to Heston Services.

    And there is queuing traffic on the A1261 Aspen Way into town in Poplar from the A13 Canning Town Flyover junction to the A1203 Limehouse Link Tunnel junction.

  11. No service on London Overground between Clapham Junction and Watford Junctionpublished at 08:13

    There is currently no service on the London Overground between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction due to overhead line problems between Shepherds Bush and Willesden Junction.

    London Underground are accepting tickets for reasonable routes.
