  1. Cycle event organisers snub Croydon after £148,000 racepublished at 14:46

    Croydon’s council tax-payers have been taken for another ride, this time on the back of a racing bicycle.

    The “international” cycle race staged in the town centre last June won’t be returning to the streets of Croydon in 2016. Nor for the foreseeable future, external.

  2. Cycle 'cull' at Paddingtonpublished at 14:32

    Network Rail has tweeted that all bikes deemed abandoned in cycle racks on platform 8/9 will be removed on 4 February.

    Any unclaimed bikes will be donated to charity "after a certain time", British Transport Police say.

    The black actress cast to play Hermione Granger in the new Harry Potter stage show has hit back at fans who have criticised the decision.

    Some people suggested they had a problem with Hermione "changing race" after Noma Dumezweni was given the role last month.

    "To say it's not as it was intended is so unimaginative," she said.

  5. 'Dotty art' across the capitalpublished at 13:41

    An art initiative celebrating some of the capital's leading contemporary digital artists begins today.

    Dot to Dot, external will see works by 20 London-based artists on display across the capital until 28 February.

    Venues where the art will be featured include Covent Garden, Borough Market, BOX PARK Shoreditch and The Trunk at The Artworks in Elephant & Castle.

    Quins lock James Horwill is also up on a striking charge over an incident that saw Sarries flanker George Kruis leave the field on a stretcher.

    Meanwhile, Saracens prop Rhys Gill has been charged with making a dangerous tackle after he was sent off for a second-half tackle on George Lowe.

    A Syrian man and his London fiancé have been reunited after being separated for three years because of the country's war.

    Ahmed Alhameed reunited with Razan Alakraa at Heathrow

    Syrian doctor Ahmed Alhameed worked in a field hospital after the civil war broke out, but he was arrested in 2013 and tortured.

    He managed to escape the country through Lebanon, and landed at Heathrow airport on 1 January to be greeted by his fiance, pharmacist Razan Alakraa.

  10. Train delays caused by 'bright sun'published at 12:10

    Rail passengers have been left unimpressed after being told trains had been delayed this morning because of "strong sunlight".

    Commuters have taken to Twitter to voice their complaints. 

    One user said it was "the weakest excuse ever" while another asked the train company "How do they go on in hot countries where they have sunshine all the time?"

  11. Car collides with familypublished at 11:52

    A family of four had to be taken to a south London hospital after a car collided with them in New Malden on Sunday morning, then failed to stop at the scene.

    The mother, aged 31, suffered a broken leg while the father, aged 27, was treated for bruises to his back. Their two children, aged three and 18-months, suffered minor injuries.

    Police are searching, external for the driver of the car, a red Fiat Punto registered YH55 HWV, which was found abandoned near Onslow Road in New Malden with damage to its front.

  13. Bodies buried in gardenpublished at 11:19

    Sian Blake's boyfriend had left the UK on 19 December, three days after the former actress and her children had been reported missing.

    Her body, along with those of her children Zachary and Amon, were found buried in the family garden in Erith on 5 January.

    Scotland Yard is under investigation over why it took so long to call in homicide detectives and find Miss Blake and her two sons.

    The partner of former EastEnders actress Sian Blake has been remanded in custody after appearing in court in Ghana.

    Arthur Simpson-Kent, 48, is facing extradition to the UK where he is accused of murdering her and their two children.
