    They could not have been more different in their choice of music and the era they lived in.

    But despite the 240-year gap both Handel and Jimi Hendrix decided to live in Brook Street in London's Mayfair.

    The two adjoining properties have become a combined Handel and Hendrix museum, with Hendrix's home at 23 Brook Street now opened to the public.

  2. Teenager upset by stop and search films guide for otherspublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    A teenager who says he was traumatised after being stopped and searched has made a video so other young people know what to do if it happens to them.

    Seventeen-year-old Naman was stopped by police in Southall in west London last year. 

    He made the video with the young people's charity Fixers and is now hoping to take it into schools. 

    The Met Police says its aim is to use stop and search effectively to tackle crimes whilst keeping the public's confidence.  

  3. Judge-led review of past Met Police casespublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Met Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe has asked former High Court judge Sir Richard Henriques to review the handling of past cases involving allegations of child abuse by VIPs were handled by the force. 

    The key findings and recommendations of the independent review will be published later this year.

    Sir Bernard said: "We are not afraid to learn how we can do these things better. 

    "The review will focus on police procedures and will not reach judgments on the evidence. 

    "That is for the Public Inquiry to do, should they wish to examine any of the investigations covered by Sir Richard. A full copy of the review will be given to the Public Inquiry." 

  4. 'Right to improve London for cycling' - Gilliganpublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Following the High Court decision to reject the case against east-west cycle superhighway London Mayor's cycling commissioner Andrew Gilligan said: "Once again, the courts have in the clearest terms upheld our right to improve London for cycling.

    "It means we can now be confident of finishing the Embankment/ Upper Thames Street superhighway on schedule in April, finishing the whole superhighway in summer, and ending the temporary delays that have occurred as a result of the construction works."  

  5. West Ham FA Cup win over Liverpool among its 'greatest games'published at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    West Ham's extra-time victory over Liverpool was "a classic FA Cup tie" and one of the club's best, according to the Hammers' manager Slaven Bilic.

    Angelo Ogbonna's header made the score 2-1 seconds before the match headed towards a penalty shootout.

    "It will go into the history of West Ham's greatest games," said Bilic. "Against Liverpool, the last season at Upton Park, night kick-off, a goal in the last minute." 

  6. 'No adverse environmental effect' of cycle superhighwaypublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Dismissing the Licensed Taxi drivers Association case against the cycle superhighway, the judge ruled the Transport for London did not err in law, "and was not irrational in reaching its conclusion that there was no significant adverse environmental effect from the proposals as a whole". 

    The judge added: "On the evidence before the court, planning permission is not required for phase one of the superhighway as a whole. 

    "That is not to say that it may not be required for certain minor works within the scheme (that information is not before the court), or that it may not be required for other cycle superhighways or for parts of them in the future. 

    "Each scheme will need to be judged on its own facts." 

  7. Cycle route 'breached planning control'published at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    The Licensed Taxi Drivers Association said plans for a £47m cycle superhighway linking Westbourne Grove and Tower Hill via the Victoria Embankment were rushed through and "constituted a breach of planning control".

    But Mrs Justice Patterson rejected the application for a judicial review

    Transport for London said the plan was "works of improvement" and did not need planning permission and would make the capital's roads safer for cyclists.

    Black cab drivers unions will hold a demonstration in Whitehall, external from 14:00.

    The protest is over the perceived failures of Transport for London as regulator, illegal toutuing for fares and failure to protect black cab trade against rise of minicab apps.

    Coming up at 13:30 on BBC London News, Transport for London has admitted that Labour mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan's fares freeze policy will not cost £1.9bn over the next mayoral term. 

    The Transport Commissioner Mike Brown says that figure was for five rather than four years. The figure has become a cause of fierce debate in the race for City Hall.

    And the Grade II listed historic chapel at St Thomas' Hospital has been officially reopened after eight months of restoration. 

  11. MPs criticise 'right-to-buy' funding model piloted in Londonpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    The way the government intends to pay for its plans to allow social tenants in England to buy their homes is "extremely questionable", MPs say.

    The Commons Communities Committee criticised the funding model for the right-to-buy scheme, which will see housing associations reimbursed for selling homes to tenants at discounts.

    Ministers say it will help create a million new homeowners by 2020.

    The scheme, which is partly designed to reverse the steady decline in home ownership levels in recent years, is currently being piloted in Norfolk, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Merseyside and a number of London boroughs.

  13. Crowdfunding bid to restore JMW Turner's Twickenham housepublished at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    A campaign to restore a house designed and owned by the artist JMW Turner has turned to the public in a bid to source the remainder of money needed.

    Sandycombe Lodge in Twickenham, south west London, was built by Turner in 1813, but it has fallen into a poor state of repair in recent years.

    Turner's House Trust is looking for £125,000 to reach its £2.4m target to allow restoration works to begin.

    The house - currently closed to the public - could be open in 2017.

    A lorry with a crane on its very long trailer got stuck in the box junction outside Shepherd’s Bush Station at around 07:30 this morning.

    It hasn’t moved in three hours and doesn’t look likely to for a while.

    There is severe congestion back through Shepherd’s Bush, Holland Park, Earl’s Court, Hammersmith & East Acton.

    London Underground are accepting bus tickets in Zones 1 and 2 because of the severe disruption to bus services.

    The family of Milly Dowler have described the "torment and pain" they have gone through since Levi Bellfield confessed he had killed their daughter.

    In a statement, the family revealed they had been given the full details of the confession eight months ago but had to remain silent while police investigated whether Beffield had an accomplice.

    They said this had put "unimaginable pressure" on the family but they now hoped the 13-year-old's "soul, at long last, can finally rest in peace".

    A man was arrested by Surrey Police, external during the investigation but was released without charge.
