    London Mayor Sadiq Khan has emphasized his support for Gatwick Airport, saying: "I don't want to hear more warm words from Heathrow. Gatwick is the solution." 

    "Unlike Boris Johnson, I am not anti-Heathrow," he said. 

    "But keep it as it is and get the growth from Gatwick."

    London City Airport has revealed a selection of the airport’s most unusual items which have been picked up during hand luggage security search in the past 12 months.

    These have included:

    • Aesop Animal soap 500ml (dog shampoo)

    • Horselyx (horse food treats)
    • Potato forks for fondue

    It comes as London Mayor Sadiq Khan was criticised for his decision to remove one of the obstacles for the airport's expansion plan.

    He has withdrawn his predecessor Boris Johnson's objection to the proposed compulsory purchase of public land. 

    Sian Berry, Green Party Member of the London Assembly, accused Mr Khan of not standing up for residents in east London who will be "blighted by more noise and already live with illegal levels of air pollution".

    Harlequins prop Seb Adeniran-Olule has died at the age of 20 in a road traffic collision.

    The club say they are "deeply saddened" by the death of the England youth international, who had been at the club since the age of 13.  

    Adeniran-Olule, who played three first-team games for Harlequins, represented England at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

    Three people have been arrested for conspiracy to murder a father-of-three who was shot dead on his driveway in Hillingdon last year.

    Redwan El-Ghaidouni, 38, was shot eight times through his car window.

    The Met said two men aged 41 and 29 as well as a 34-year-old woman were arrested following dawn raids this morning.

    David Pitchford, a regular at the Boleyn Ground for 20 years and a West Ham season ticket holder, says those responsible should be banned for life.  

    West Ham fans will be disgusted with this behaviour. Last night was so special for us, saying goodbye to our ground. Inside the ground, it was great, apart from the delayed kick off. Great game, a win against Manchester United and a fabulous end to the evening.

  14. Murder accused 'wanted to start fights'published at 15:45 British Summer Time 11 May 2016

    The Old Bailey has heard how Ben Butler, who is accused of murdering his six-year-old daughter Ellie, met a psychologist in 2004 after assaulting a man in a nightclub.

    Dr Tim Green interviewed Mr Butler over four hours after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in Kingston upon Thames 12 years ago.

    The psychologist wrote that Mr Butler found it "difficult to control his violence when he felt humiliated" and "historically would become angry and punch people".

    In his report, he wrote: "He (Mr Butler) stated that he had in the past hoped that situations might present themselves where he could engage in violence."

    Daughter murder accused 'started fights'

    A father accused of beating to death his six-year-old daughter in a fit of rage admitted getting into fights as a way to "improve his mood", a court hears.

  15. Labour to announce candidate for Tooting votepublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 11 May 2016

    The Labour Party is set to announce its candidate for the Tooting by-election.

    Sadiq Khan stood down from the position after he won the vote to become London mayor.

    The Tories are said to believe they have a chance of winning the seat as Mr Khan only had a majority of 2,842 when he won back in 2015.

    The vote takes place on 16 June, one week before the EU referendum.
