Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has responded to "damning" findings in to the Henriques Review into the Met's VIP paedophile probe in a series of tweets, external.

He says: "I asked for this independent review - wanted to know if mistakes were made in investigations.

"I accept accountability for failures identified within Op Midland & Op Vicente on behalf of the Metropolitan Police.

"Professional & personal dismay suspects in investigation were pursued for so long when it could’ve been concluded much earlier.

"We should have tested the credibility of the complainant more rigorously before conducting the searches.

"Cannot & do not expect sympathy of suspects in these cases. But necessary to understand pressure on investigators at the time."
