    Crystal Palace FC has just released this statement regarding the loss of life in Croydon's tram derailment, in particular, that of fan Dane Chinnery.

    "Everyone at Crystal Palace Football Club was shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic tram accident on Wednesday morning. 

    "The chairman, manager, players and staff would like to offer their sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. 

    "Whilst information is still being clarified, we understand that at least one of the victims, 19-year-old Dane Chinnery, was a Palace fan. 

    "Our prayers are with his family and with all the friends and relatives of those victims that have been affected. 

    "The club wishes a full and speedy recovery to the many people who suffered injuries. 

    "This was a terrible event in the heart of Croydon and we stand with the community at this difficult time."

    British Transport Police (BTP) said forensics teams are expected to stay at the crash site until tonight at the earliest, and identifying the dead may be a "complex and lengthy process". 

    The tram was travelling from New Addington to Wimbledon via Croydon when the accident happened at 06:10. 

    Scenes after the crash were described as "total carnage" after the two-carriage tram tipped over in heavy rain next to an underpass. 

    Survivors rescued from the wreckage said the tram failed to brake in its usual place at a bend on the track after speeding up.

    The driver of a tram that crashed killing seven people in south London has been released on bail. 

    The 42-year-old man, from Beckenham, was bailed until May while the investigation continues, British Transport Police said. 

    Investigators said the tram was travelling at a "significantly higher speed than is permitted" and are probing whether the driver had fallen asleep. 

    More than 50 people were injured when the vehicle left the track and flipped on its side in Croydon during the morning rush hour testerday.

    The services that are running are:  Wimbledon to East Croydon (every 8 mins), New Addington to Addington Village (1 tram to & from),  Beckenham Junction to Harrington  Road (every 10 mins). 

    Tickets being accepted on buses and Southern services.

    Friends of Dane Chinnery, believed to be a Crystal Palace fan, posted tributes on social media, with babyfaacecay tweeting: "Rip to a old school friend who lost his life today in the tram accident; Dane chinnery we will miss you such a lad&a full of smiles." 

    Tom Curtis wrote on Twitter that he spoke to Mr Chinnery last week, adding: "R.I.P Mate taken to soon." 

    Social media users were encouraged to share a post calling for a minute of applause at Crystal Palace's next home game on 19 November. 

    The post said: "He was red and blue all the way through, and simply loved palace." 

    It concluded: "RIP Dane."

    A football fan described as a "friendly, genuine lad" was among at least seven people killed when a tram derailed. 

    Dane Chinnery, 19, has been named as one of those who died in the morning rush hour incident in Croydon, south London, yesterday.

    The driver of the tram is being questioned by police amid suggestions it failed to brake before taking a corner at speed.

    Investigators said the vehicle was travelling at a "significantly higher speed than is permitted" and are probing whether the driver had fallen asleep. 

    More than 50 people were injured when the tram left the track and flipped on its side. 

    Tom Dale, 20, was on the tram and recalled nodding over to his old school friend Mr Chinnery, who was already sitting on the tram when he boarded. 

    The pair, who went to Addington High School together and took part in performing arts, were on their way to work. 

    Mr dale said: "He was just a friendly, genuine lad, did no harm to nobody really. No one deserves for this to happen to them."

    The A232 Addiscombe Road in Croydon is closed in both directions between the A232 junction and the A215 Shirley Road junction as a result of yesterday's tram accident.

    Buses are still on diversion: 119, 194, 198 and 466.

    A special service will run between Addington Village and East Croydon, and extra buses on nearby routes.

    One of two men who escaped from London's Pentonville prison on Monday has been recaptured, police have said.

    Matthew Baker, 28, was arrested at an address in Ilford, north-east London, on Wednesday night and is being held in Metropolitan Police custody.

    A 21-year-old woman and a man aged 33 were also arrested.

    Baker was awaiting sentencing for attempted murder when he broke through cell bars at the north London prison with fellow inmate, James Whitlock, 31.

    The Met has renewed its appeal for information about Whitlock, who remains at large.
