  1. White Garden memorial to mark 20 years since death of Diana, Princess of Walespublished at 17:45

    A new memorial garden at Kensington Palace marking two decades since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales is to be called The White Garden. 

    The floral tribute will be planted with white roses, scented narcissi and a carpet of forget-me-nots around the existing Sunken Garden at the Princess's former home - where her sons Prince Harry and the Duke of Cambridge and her grandchildren Prince George and Princess Charlotte now live.

    Kensington Palace is also staging a new exhibition, which opens in February - Diana: Her Fashion Story - and charts the evolution of the Princess's style. 

    William and Harry have been following the plans for the exhibition and temporary garden where the flowers and foliage have been inspired by memories of the Princess's life, style and image.

    The garden, which will be open to the public, will be installed for the spring and summer of 2017 - commemorating 20 years since the Princess died in a Paris car crash on 31 August 1997. 

    Fashion Story will open at Kensington Palace on 24 February 2017. The White Garden will be in bloom at the beginning of April.

     Prince Harry has given an impromptu and impassioned speech to a HIV choir telling them to speak out about their illness to help end the stigma around the condition. 

    When Harry visited the group called Joyful Noise, rehearsing before their appearance at an awards ceremony, he urged them to turn around public perceptions. 

    His presence had an instant effect as virtually all of the 29 singers lined up to be publicly photographed with the royal, when earlier only a few said they were willing to be identified.

    Harry - wearing the same bracelet as seen on girlfriend Meghan Markle - came on stage at Fulham's Hurlingham Club after they had sung a number of songs, including No Woman No Cry and Everything's Gonna Be Alright, and told the performers: "I don't believe we can really smash the stigma unless people like yourselves are willing to talk."

    Transport for London says there will be no service tomorrow on the section of track where the Croydon tram derailed, leaving seven dead and 51 injured.

    TfL says the  "safety process" on the trams is ongoing. We are awaiting Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) report which will ensure any advice is acted upon before resumption of a full service.

    The UK's most famous dinosaur is going to start its national tour on southern England's Jurassic Coast.

    Dorset County Museum, external will be the first place to host Dippy the Diplodocus, external when it temporarily moves out of its London home.

    The capital's Natural History Museum is having a big front-of-house makeover.

    A blue whale skeleton is being put in the dinosaur's prominent position by the main entrance - and so Dippy is going on the road.

    Allardyce, who lost his job at the Hammers in the summer, claimed that the Hammers owners had asked too much of him. Writing in The Mirror, he wrote "If (West Ham co-owners) David Sullivan and David Gold have told Slaven Bilic that they expect to get into Europe this year then I think it's way beyond the capabilities of the squad at this moment in time."

    Gold "I don't think it is beyond our capabilities. We don't need to set targets, Slaven sets the targets for himself."

    Conservatives on the London Assembly are calling on mayor Sadiq Khan to intervene in the dispute between the RMT and London Underground after strike action in the run up to Christmas was announced.

    Thousands of LU staff have voted to walk out in a dispute over staffing and safety.

    Transport spokesman Keith Prince AM said: “Once again London is being cynically held to ransom by the unions at a time designed to inflict the highest possible damage. How much longer before we say enough is enough?

    “The Mayor needs to prevent another tube strike Groundhog Day by backing plans for binding pendulum arbitration, forcing both sides to act as reasonably as possible during negotiations and preventing strikes. 

    “Londoners do not deserve to be used as pawns in petty industrial disputes. The Mayor has a duty to intervene.”
