Inside Croydon
The Historic Croydon Airport Trust has announced that it has received a National Lottery grant of £9,200, external for its “Fighting for Air: The First World War Origins of Croydon Airport” project.

An exhibition featuring photographs of acid attack survivors has opened in East London.
Photographers travelled to Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan and Uganda to capture the daily lives of survivors of acid attacks.
London had around 400 acid attacks in 2016.
The exhibition will take place at the Leyden Gallery in Spitalfields until Saturday.

There were differences across the country, with the North East having the lowest proportion of schools reporting at least one opening (16.4% of secondaries), compared to 30.4% of schools in outer London and 26.4% in the South East.
The NAO concludes that the Department for Education (DfE) cannot show that its attempts to keep teachers in the classroom are having a positive impact and are good value for money.

An east London hospital has begun to show signs of improvement two years after being placed in special measures.
An unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in May found Whipps Cross hospital, part of the Bart's Health NHS Trust, requires improvement.
The hospital had previously been rated inadequate in July 2016.
Barts Health NHS Trust remains in special measures, as it has been since May 2015.
In its latest inspection the CQC looked at three core services at Whipps Cross: end of life care, outpatients and diagnostics services and surgery.
Since the CQC inspection in May 2017 Whipps Cross Hospital has:
The first two inspections were rated as "requires improvement" but the CQC still rated surgery as "inadequate".
