  1. Three people injured in west London 'noxious substance attack'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 4 September 2018
    Breaking

    Three people have been injured in a reported noxious substance attack near Notting Hill.

    The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Westbourne Grove at 14:09 BST.

    Crews from Kensington and Paddington fire stations have also been called to the incident as well as paramedics.

    No arrests have been made, and enquiries are continuing into the suspected attack.

    There are currently no further details on the victims, the Met has said.

    Sian Berry and Jonathan Bartley have been elected joint leaders of the Green Party of England and Wales.

    Mr Bartley had shared the leadership role with MP Caroline Lucas, but she decided not to stand again.

    London Assembly member Ms Berry will now serve a two-year term as co-leader of the party alongside Mr Bartley.

    The pair saw off challenges from Shahrar Ali, a former deputy leader, and former parliamentary candidate Leslie Rowe.

    Police have released images of a girl they are trying to trace after two railway workers on a DLR service were assaulted.

    The two members of staff had asked the girl to leave the train at Poplar station on 25 June at about 14:20 because of her behaviour.

    She then became violent and punched, kicked and spat on the two victims, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

    Police have appealed that anyone with information to contact the BTP.

  7. Woman dies after Chalk Farm flat firepublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    A woman has died following a flat fire in Chalk Farm yesterday, London Fire Brigade have said.

    Three fire engines and about 15 firefighters were deployed to the block in Harmood Street soon after 14:30.

    The woman was treated at the scene and taken to hospital but later died.

    The blaze, which was under control at 15:05, damaged part of the ground floor flat.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation, the brigade said.

  10. Further SWR strike action given go-aheadpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Two 24-hour strikes are set to go ahead on South Western Railway (SWR), the RMT Union has confirmed.

    Workers will walkout on Saturday, 9 September from 00:01 BST until 23:59 and during the same time the following Saturday.

    The strike is the latest in a series this summer by the RMT over concerns about driver-only operated trains on the SWR network.

    SWR bosses said they are "committed to resolving the dispute" and are "extremely disappointed" by the latest strike announcement.

  11. 'Smart motorway' work to start on M4 in Septemberpublished at 10:04 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Plans for what will be the longest stretch of "smart motorway" in England will go on show ahead of work starting on the M4 in September.

    The 32-mile (51km) stretch of road between London and Theale in Berkshire will be widened in both directions with four lanes.

    Eleven bridges over the M4 will be demolished and rebuilt and four more carrying the motorway over roads, railways and rivers will be widened.

    The project will cost up to £862.4m

  13. Girl, 16, among west London terror arrestspublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    A 16-year-old girl is one of three people who have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in west London this morning.

    A 53-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman are currently being questionned following police raids at two addresses.

    The Met say they were all arrested on suspicion of funding terrorism and have been detained at a police station in south London.

    The trio are in custody and police say enquiries are ongoing.

  14. 'Significant' fire at large London primary schoolpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Dozens of firefighters are tackling a "significant" blaze at a large primary school in Dagenham.

    Twelve fire engines and about 80 firefighters were called to Roding Primary School shortly before 05:00 BST.

    The Metropolitan Police said road closures had been put in place and that there were no reported injuries.

    According to Roding Primary School, it is "one of the biggest primary schools in the country".
