While the Central and Waterloo & City Lines are suspended due to a walk out by drivers, the strike which had been planned for midday on the Piccadilly Line has been called off.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash praised the RMT members on the Piccadilly Line "whose solidarity and resilience has been the decisive factor in forcing London Underground back to the negotiating table".

But he said there was "a growing culture on London Underground that revolves around refusing to employ enough drivers, bullying staff and expecting our members to pick up the pieces when the service breaks down".

"As a result of that management side failure, the action on the Central Line goes ahead as planned," he added.

Both the Central and Waterloo & City lines are expected to have very limited or no service throughout the day due to the walk out by drivers.

Elsewhere, there are severe delays on TfL Rail between Paddington and Heathrow Airport due to a faulty track.

A points failure at London Waterloo is causing disruption to services to and from the station.

A surveyor will draw up plans for a project to repair or replace paving at the historic Guildhall Yard.

The last time the yard was repaved was in the 1990s.

It is a popular spot for civic events as well as the new lunchtime markets, film screenings and even yoga classes.

The horse-drawn Lord Mayor’s coach also departs from the yard.

As it is in a conservation area, any work for the project – costing £1m to £3m – would have to secure planning permission.

The paving is also designed with markings to illustrate the layout of the 7,000-seat Roman amphitheatre discovered underneath in 1985.

The surveyor will look at options of doing the work to paving, damp proofing, surface water drains and drainage all in one go or as a phased project.

The corporate asset sub-committee approved spending £22,500 to hire a consultant to survey the pavement and drainage.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were deployed to Hylands Road at 01:30 GMT. They took more than two-and-a-half hours to get the blaze under control.

The fire is thought to have smouldered for several hours after the occupant left the property.

Crew manager Steve Spence said the fire "was punching out the back of the building" and "had clearly been burning for quite some time."

One man was rescued using a ladder and another was led to safety using the internal staircase. One woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Harry Potter actor Alfred Enoch talks about playing Mark Rothko's assistant in Red, in cinemas this week following its acclaimed West End run.

Two actors. Two characters. One stage. One interval-free show. Copious amounts of red paint.

Those are the ingredients that make up Red, a play about US artist Mark Rothko which returned to the West End this summer, nearly a decade on from stints at London's Donmar Warehouse and on Broadway.

The recent production, a recording of which can be seen in cinemas across the UK on 7 November, saw Alfred Molina reprise his role as Rothko.
