  3. A terrible shock for those who live herepublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 30 April

    Mark Lobel
    Reporting from Hainault

We're hearing that the cordon is going to be in place for some time to come - there's a lot of work that police want to do here.

You'll have heard dramatic details of what is alleged to have happened - the suspect jumping over the fences in the back of people's houses, a standoff with police, a chase with police officers.

Police want people to come forward and that call is being reiterated by Home Secretary James Cleverly, to find out what exactly happened during this incident, and what the motivation was for this attack.

We've heard five people have been taken to hospital, two of them are police officers.

As the deputy assistant commissioner said, this has been a terrible shock for the local community, and that's exactly what we've found while reporting here.

One resident I spoke to said the street where the incident took place is usually part of his running route, and he often goes around the same time of the attack - around 07:00 BST.

But as he is currently injured, he wasn't out running this morning. In the 14 years he's lived there, he said he's only heard of two burglaries in the area.

  5. Officers went into an alley then I heard a woman scream - witnesspublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 30 April

Another witness, who was in Hainault this morning, has just spoken to the PA news agency:

    Quote Message

I heard the words 'he's got a massive knife', or 'he's got a massive sword'. Then he disappeared down this alley and he was out of sight.

    Quote Message

They [the police] went into the alley and there seemed to be some sort of a stand-off there where I heard this huge commotion, then I heard a scream.

    Quote Message

From that commotion at least one person was knifed - I think it might have been a woman because I heard a woman scream and then some sort of sobbing sounds.

    Quote Message

I then heard a voice say something like 'she's been stabbed in the face' or 'we need assistance' - you know, calling for medical back-up."

    Quote Message

I just walked out of the office, it was seven o’clock [in the morning] and I heard chaos on the other side of the road. I saw a group of people, five or six of them, trying to fight off a guy - he had a sword on his hand."

Manpreet says one of the people fighting off the man with a sword was stabbed, while others tried to call the police and ambulance.

    Quote Message

There was about seven or eight police cars entering that road and after another 10 minutes, I saw the guy running towards the station and entered the road opposite the station. He tried to get into one of the houses but couldn’t get into it and that’s when they Tasered him.

    Quote Message

We saw police trying to catch him, and he was trying to fight [them] off. In a matter of 15 minutes, all this had happened. He was cutting people, I heard he stabbed four or five people."

"I looked out the back window because the noise was coming from back there, I saw a bloke dressed in yellow jumping over some fences... then he went down an alley like he was going back onto the street again.

"I saw a policeman and policewoman - normal coppers with the short-sleeved shirts - who chased after him and they were shouting for him to put it down."
