    A five-year-old boy with rare genetic condition has hugged Prince Harry at a ceremony to recognise inspirational children.

    Ollie, from Poynton in Cheshire, was diagnosed last year with Batten disease.

    His mother explained to BBC Radio 5 live's Adrian Chiles what happened at the event.

    Wayne Rooney has said United striker Marcus Rashford could become an England regular after he has been recalled to the England senior squad for the World Cup qualifiers. 

    Rooney, Rashford's captain for the club and country, said he hopes the teenager can become an England regular after he was asked during his news conference.

    A new £20m medical and surgical centre has opened at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.

    The 120-bed facility replaces older parts of the hospital and includes four new operating theatres, three of which replace old theatres.

    The hospital was revealed to have a deficit of more than £40m earlier this year, when it said it would have to axe 350 full-time posts and permanently close a ward.

    Ann Barnes, chief executive of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said the new centre was "absolutely necessary to make our services fit for the future and provide the extra capacity we need for specialist surgery".

    A man who strangled a woman after tying duct tape around her mouth has been jailed for 14 years.

    Eddie Osborn, 45, attacked the woman at his Newton Heath home in March 2014, when he tied duct tape around her mouth to mask her screams, police said. 

    During the attack, she lost consciousness as Osborn shouted abuse and threatened to kill her before he finally let her go.

    He was found guilty of assault and threats to kill at Manchester Crown Court.

  12. Police 'respect' decision to drop case against MP Simon Danczukpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk who was facing a rape allegation dating back to 2006 will not face any further action, prosecutors have said -  a decision police respect.

    Prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to provide a prospect for a conviction. 

    Mr Danczuk remains suspended from the Labour Party after he admitted sending inappropriate text messages to a teenage girl.

    Lancashire Constabulary said the force "entirely respect" the prosecutors' decision.

  14. Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk rape allegation case droppedpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    A Rochdale MP accused of rape dating back 10 years has had the case against him dropped.

    Simon Danzcuk, who was suspended by the Labour Party, was interviewed under caution regarding a rape allegation made on 4 January, Lancashire Police said.

    The Crown Prosecution Service said no further action should be taken against the Rochdale MP because of "insufficient evidence".

    Mr Danczuk said he was "relieved" and described the investigation as an "immensely stressful period for me and my family".

    He now hopes to have the Labour whip restored "as soon as possible".

    Four Javan green magpies have hatched at Chester Zoo, boosting efforts to save the species from extinction.

    There are now 11 magpies at the zoo after six pairs of the birds were flown from Indonesia to Chester in late 2015.

    Their distinctive plumage is attained through the food the birds eat - insects, frogs and lizards.
