    More road closures have been confirmed in Poynton, which is among the places hit the hardest by the deluge.

    Cheshire Police warned that drivers could "risk their lives" by driving through roads closed by flooding in Poynton.

    "Please do not risk your life or vehicle travelling through the flood water," they tweeted.

    "Raised manhole covers and debris are likely to be underneath."

    Flooding affecting parts of Cheshire has "largely subsided", Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

    Firefighters were called to 35 incidents yesterday in the Bollington, Poynton and Wilmslow between 16:00 BST and midnight, but it seems the deluge is now receding.

    Rewind Festival has been cancelled due to the "prolonged extreme wet weather conditions experienced in Cheshire".

    The festival was due to take place at Capesthorne Hall in Macclesfield, Cheshire, this weekend.

    But festival organisers said the heavy rain had caused "significant disruption to the site at Rewind North".

    "Although we have robust contingency plans in place and have made every effort to allow the festival to go ahead, in the interests of the safety of our customers, we have taken the decision to cancel the event." a spokesman added.

    Norbury Hall Primary School will not available to use as a polling station for the Hazel Grove by-election today.

    A mobile polling station at the Fiveways Pub car park on Macclesfield Road will be in place instead.

    This is the second time Jackie Carter's home has been flooded in Brammall - despite putting measures in place including reinforced doors to protect her home.

    This morning she returned to find her house covered in "mud and filth".

    Ms Carter told BBC Radio Manchester that last time she was unable to return to her home for 11 months.

    "I don't think we will be back in before Christmas," she said.

    "I felt an overwhelming sense of sadness. Yesterday I was angry because we had high water on Sunday and we had flood alerts.

    "I was angry no-one had taken it seriously after the high high levels on Sunday.

    "Today I feel an overwhelming sense of dismay and here we go again."

    In a statement, a Stockport Council spokesman said "the priority continues to be the safety of residents".

    A recovery plan is in place to try to help those affected in the days and weeks ahead, the spokesman added.

  13. Stranded boy, 13, rescued from nature reservepublished at 09:42 British Summer Time 1 August 2019

    A 13-year-old boy was dramatically rescued from Happy Valley Nature Reserve in Hazel Grove near Stockport after being stranded by flowing water at about 17:00 BST on Wednesday.

    We're told by GMFRS that one of its firefighters "involuntarily entered" the fast-flowing water and had to be rescued by his colleagues.

    The rescue involved "acts of bravery" and was "difficult", a spokesperson said.

    North West Ambulance Service confirmed two patients had been taken to hospital.

    Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have had a hugely busy afternoon and evening.

    A spokesman said its officers were first at the scene of the floods in the Stockport area from 16:00 BST.

    Four men were rescued from flooded firm of funeral directors

    Two women and four dogs were rescued from a house

    Four men and a woman were helped from a corner shop

    Other residents, who chose to stay in their homes, were assisted by firefighters

  19. Floodwaters starting to recede, say policepublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 1 August 2019

    Cheshire police say water levels are starting to fall following Wednesday afternoon and evening's flash flooding in much of the historic county,

    Poynton, Bollington and Wilmslow were particularly badly hit, as was Bramhall near Stockport.

    The majority of roads have now reopened, although motorists are advised to drive with care as there is still a large amount of surface water.

    The following roads REMAIN CLOSED in both directions:

    • Styal Road, Wilmslow
    • Bonis Hall Lane, Poynton
    • Flash Lane, Astbury
    • Fol Hollow, Congleton
    • Mill Lane, Adlington
    • Moggie Lane, Higher Poynton (following collapse of the bridge at the junction with Narrow Lane)
    • Hully Road, Macclesfield between Charter Way and Dover Road
    • Skellorn Green Lane, Adlington (Junction with Street Lane and Cawley Lane)

    A number of other minor roads also remain closed and motorists are reminded to abide by all road closure signs.

    Officers are also asking motorist who had were forced to abandon their vehicles yesterday to arrange collection as soon as possible.
