    This evening will be mostly cloudy, with patchy light rain and drizzle in the east of the region. Elsewhere, it will be mostly dry with clear spells, with a slight frost possible overnight, most likely in sheltered rural spots on the Wirral.

  6. ‘Ditton Flyover’ in Widnes will close on the evening of Easter Mondaypublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    A section of the A533 Queensway in Widnes, known locally as the Ditton Flyover, which links Speke Road to the Silver Jubilee Bridge, will be permanently closed from 19:30 on the evening of 28 March 2016.

    Motorists travelling through Widnes are being warned to expect delays as a result of the closure, which is needed to build link roads through Widnes to connect the main road network to the new Mersey Gateway bridge, which will open in autumn 2017.

    Merseyside Police have released an e-fit of a man officers want to speak to in relation to a report of a sexual assault in Anfield.

    A man with a strong Liverpool accent tried to grab a 23-year-old woman at a bus stop on Rocky Lane, near to the junction with Sheil Road, on the afternoon of 23 December.

    When she walked off he followed her as she returned to work to call the police.

    A police officer tried to run away from a stolen car moments before it hit and killed him, a court heard.

    Father-of-two PC Dave Phillips, 34, died after he was hit by a pick-up truck in Wallasey on 5 October.

    PC Thomas Birkett, who witnessed the incident, told the jury at Manchester Crown Court: "I never want to see anything like it again."

    Clayton Williams, 19, denies murder, saying he did not intend to injure the Merseyside officer.

    After lying in a locked cupboard for 50 years, handwritten notes by Sir George Martin from the first Help! recording - dated 15th February 1965 - will be on show for the first time.

    The recording of The Beatles fifth album and soundtrack to their second feature film began at EMI Studios in Abbey Road.

    Sir George Martin’s recording notes reveal the structure of the sessions and the departure from their usual recording methods.

    The notes go on display this weekend at The Beatles Story, external in Liverpool.

    He said: "He gave us our first records, How Do You Do, I Like It, we did Walk Alone with George. He was just great.

    "The nice thing about George was he was a gentleman, very polite, never lost his temper. He was lovely to work with."

    A court has been told how PC Dave Phillips tried to run from a stolen car moments before it hit and killed him.

    The 34-year-old father of two died when the truck mounted a central reservation in Wallasey, Merseyside.

    Jurors were told Clayton Williams, 19, hit the officer during a police pursuit in October last year. He claims he did not intend to injure the officer and denies murder.

    Flowers have been left at the gates of Strawberry Fields in Liverpool today in memory of Sir George Martin, who has died aged 90.

    Flowers and messages have also been left at the city's Cavern Club and a book of condolence has opened at The Beatles Story.

    The message reads at Strawberry Fields reads: "George, We will miss you. Thank you for the sounds of our youth. Clemens."
