  1. Walk-in health centre in Yarmouth under spotlightpublished at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2017

It's being claimed that the closure of Great Yarmouth's NHS walk-in centre has had no impact on accident and emergency departments or the ambulance services.

A report, external by the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Joint Health Scrutiny Committee has concluded the alternative services are working well.

But Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis says he'd welcome walk in services coming back to the town.

"Actually expecting everybody to go to the James Paget puts a lot of pressure potentially on the James Paget during tourism season," Mr Lewis said. "But also on people in our northern villages, it's quite a big journey to do if you have that kind of urgent requirement.

"The walk-in centre alleviated some of that pressure, both for residents and potentially for the hospital as well."

  14. Course to help doctors prepare for traumatic injuriespublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2017

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

Hundreds of patients are brought into the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) every year with injuries that could be life-changing.

Last year, staff at the west Norfolk hospital's A&E department treated injuries related to 39 road crashes and 196 falls, 23 of these were from more than 2m (6.5ft) high.

Up to 29 of the trauma patients were aged over 90, with seven under 18-years-old.

Recently 20 doctors from the King's Lynn hospital took part in a three-day advanced trauma course to help them deal with the injuries.

Dr Alistair Steel, who's been running the course locally for three years, says trauma is the most common cause of death for those under 40.

"In this region most young people die as a result of injuries sustained in car accidents... fortunately we see little of the violent crime that larger cities like London see... for older people falls are a big problem."

  17. Doctors hone life-saving skillspublished at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2017

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

Doctors from a hospital in west Norfolk hospital have been honing their life-saving skills on a three day Advanced Trauma course.

It comes after nearly 250 patients were treated for traumatic injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) between summer 2015-16, and half of those were more than 80-years-old.

The majority of patients treated at the QEH are unrelated to trauma, with doctors seeing a handful of severely injured patients a year.

Consultant anaesthetist Alistair Steel has been running the course and says it plays an important role in ensuring doctors remain up to date and confident in applying their life-saving skills.

He tries to make the course relative to the area, as the injuries seen at the King's Lynn hospital are different to those seen in places like London.

    Quote Message

Most of the major traumatic injuries we see in west Norfolk are caused by older people falling over... broken hips are the most common traumatic injury... these are very distressing for older people, making a big impact on their lives and future mobility."

She said: "Could this have been done in week four, ie. mid- to late-October? I think it could have.

"Should it have? Hindsight's a wonderful thing [but] let's not go there, we can't change it.

"We are where we are, they're doing the search now, I'm grateful for that."

Efforts are continuing to try and confirm whether a person has died in a bungalow fire in Sedge Fen near Lakenheath.

Suffolk Fire Service has told us the property is "potentially quite unstable."

    Police presence at Sedge Fen

Steve Mableson, a station commander with Suffolk Fire and Rescue, added: "There's some fairly high chimney stacks there, the roof has collapsed and the content and structure of the roof is now inside the premises.

"Before we can carry out any investigations we've got to make that safe for ourselves and the scenes of crime officers that we're working with."

People living nearby have told us the house was occupied by an elderly man.
