An inquest jury into the deaths of two men in an industrial explosion has this afternoon heard from an explosives expert with the Health & Safety Executive.

Brian Mills told Norfolk Coroners' Court that ventilation in the paint spray booth was switched off before the explosion, potentially leading to a build-up of flammable fumes.

He believed the two most likely causes of the blast were the welding outside the paint spray booth or the poor installation of the spray equipment.

But there were a number of other possible sources of ignition that should have been within the control of the company.

A walkie-talkie was found near Mr Joy in a switched-on condition, and a mobile phone was found near Mr Timbers, who had a cigarette lighter in his back pocket.

    The inquest continues.

Last September, Norfolk's Trading Standards and Public Health teams had a crackdown on traders who sell illegal cigarettes and tobacco.

The crackdown continues, and next week the teams will be heading out on a week of roadshows across the county for people to find out more about the dangers of illegal tobacco.

Louise Smith, Director of Public Health in Norfolk, says the illegal trade undermines efforts to reduce smoking as it's available at cheaper prices, and from unregulated sources.
