  8. Chelmsford murder inquiry: Victim's mother makes plea to wanted teenpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    The mother of a man who was shot dead at a petrol station has urged a teenager, who is wanted by poilce, to come forward.

    As we've reported, Essex Police want to trace Bradley Blundell, 17, in connection with the inquiry into the murder of John Pordage.

    Mr Pordage, 34, was shot outside a BP garage on Baddow Road, Chelmsford, on Saturday, just after 02:00.

    A £5,000 reward has been offered by the charity Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest of the teenager.

    Mr Pordage's mother Sue Wilson said: "Bradley, if you are listening to me, please do the right thing and hand yourself in."

    Bradley is known to have links in Chelmsford, Great Baddow, Thurrock and Norwich in Norfolk.

    A £5,000 reward has been offered for information about the whereabouts of a teenage boy wanted in connection with a murder inquiry.

    John Pordage was shot outside a BP garage near the Army & Navy roundabout in Chelmsford on Saturday just after 02:00.

    The 34-year-old, of Galleywood, was taken to hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound.

    The charity Crimestoppers, external is offering the reward for information that leads to the arrest of Bradley Blundell.

    Essex Police, external want to trace the 17-year-old who was last known to be living in Chelmsford and has links to Great Baddow and the Thurrock area. He also has links to Norwich.

    Liam Duffy, regional manager for Crimestoppers, said: "It’s believed he is a danger to the public and must be found.

    "Someone will either know where he is or is maybe giving him shelter.

    "The public's safety is important to us, which is why we guarantee that anyone who contacts our charity with information stays 100% anonymous.

    "Bradley should not be approached directly by members of the public."

    Five arrests have made in connection with the murder investigation.

    A NHS hospital's clinic for children has celebrated its first year of operation with a formal opening ceremony.

    An area of the James Paget University Hospital, external in Gorleston was refurbished last year to create The Cove - aiming to provide a brighter and more colourful place for young patients.

    It was created following feedback from Care Quality Commission, external inspectors, who gave the hospital an overall rating of "good", but recommended the hospital enhanced its children’s outpatient facilities.

    On average, The Cove has seen more than 200 extra patients per month than the previous children's unit.

    Its official launch saw a string of paper boats cut by eight-year-old patient Drew Bye and former staff member Rachel Short, who was responsible for the old children’s outpatient department.

    Senior sister Jo Scott said: "It may seem a little strange to be holding an opening ceremony a year on, but we needed to learn how to work in the facility and to settle in."

    Health inspectors have said the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital still "requires improvement".

    The hospital was given the rating by the Care Quality Commission last year.

    Its inspectors' latest report, external has given the hospital the same status.

    It said medicines were not always stored safely in line with policy, most wards had vacancies for nurses and health care assistants and some staff felt there was "unnesccessary pressure" on them.

    The report does acknowledge, however, staff adhered to risk assessment and hygiene protocols, the attitude of staff was "excellent" and that there were some examples of "excellent" leadership.

    The hospital, external was rated as "good" for its care.

    Chief executive Mark Davies said: "Our staff are amazing and the good progress we are making on our journey of improvement is because of their dedication and professionalism.

    “Nothing is more important to us than providing the best care possible for our patients and we welcome the CQC’s findings that the attitude of staff remains excellent, that all staff were helpful, open and caring with excellent examples of leadership.

    "Of course we recognise that there are areas that still require improvement and we are committed to working together with teams to make this happen."

    Yesterday's heavy rainfall has brought headaches for road users.

    Those living in the area said the flooding is about 2ft (60cm) to 3ft (90cm), and a cyclist fell attempting to get through it.

    A yellow weather warning from the Met Office, external for heavy rain in the south-east was in place until 23:00 last night.

    Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, external is warning people not to attempt to drive through the flood water as it was called out to a number of vehicles getting stuck across the county.

    Police have released a map showing the area where they want people to help with the investigation into the "brutal" murder of an 83-year-old man.

    Peter Wrighton's body was found on Saturday near Fiveways Junction, three miles south of East Harling in Norfolk, on the edge of Thetford Forest.

    The married father-of-two, from Banham, died from many stab wounds to his neck and head, a post-mortem examination showed. The murder weapon has not been found.

    Norfolk Police, external is urging those who live within a five-mile (8km) radius to check their bins for a "weapon or anything unsual".

    The force has released the map below to show the area where they want people to check their bins.

    Children as young as seven have been arrested for carrying knives in the region, according to figures obtained by the BBC.

    In Essex, 115 people under 18 were caught with a knife between 2014 to 2015.

    In 2016 to 2017, the figure went up to 332, according to the data received from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

    There was also a rise in Norfolk and Suffolk.

    The number of knife-related crimes in Norfolk doubled in the last three years, from 154 in 2014-15 to almost 300 in the last year.

    In Suffolk, the youngest child arrested was 10. This year, 54 people under 18 were found to be carrying knives, compared to 20 two years ago.

    Police said they are working closely with charities, and are dealing with young people face-to-face to tell them about the dangers of knife crime.

    Police hunting for the killer of an 83-year-old man who was killed in woodland have set up dedicated phone numbers to fast-track inquiries.

    Peter Wrighton, from Banham, was stabbed several times in woodland on the edge of Thetford Forest near East Harling, while walking his dogs.

    His murderer is still on the loose and police are also trying to find the murder weapon.

    The Operation Graduate, external telephone numbers are being manned by communications officers from Norfolk Constabulary, external and neighbouring forces.

    Norfolk Ch Supt Mike Fawcett, said: "We remain concerned that we have not yet been able to trace the person or people responsible for Peter's death.

    "I hope residents will take some reassurance from the increased policing presence which will be continuing as long as is necessary, but I am aware that this incident will be causing some to worry.

    "I would ask people to remain vigilant and to contact us if they see anything suspicious."

    Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke believes the fans are right to be excited about youngster James Maddison.

    Maddison was named man of the match in Tuesday night's 3-2 Carabao Cup win against Swindon with one goal and two assists.

    After a successful loan spell at Aberdeen at the start of last season the youngster was then left frustrated at the lack of game-time under Alex Neil and Alan Irvine.

    However he seems to be at the centre of Farke's plans and has hit the ground running with an impressive pre-season and in the first two competitive matches of the season.

    The German boss said: "Fans are right to be excited about the talent Maddison has got, but is far from the finished article."

    The Canaries next match is Sunderland at Carrow Road on Sunday.
