    Deaf people across the country are enjoying getting fit with Joe Wicks, because of a Cambridgeshire charity.

    The Cambridge Deaf Association, external (CDA) has helped add sign language and subtitles to Joe's popular daily fitness videos, external.

    Andy Palmer, CDA chief exec, said: "It's important that people get active, so we approached Joe's team, and they were positive about the idea.

    "We've had a great reaction and a lots of deaf people have been taking part."

    A man has been charged after police officers investigating a crash in Essex last month reported they were coughed over and bitten at by a suspect.

    The incident is alleged to have happened on Queensway in Ongar on Monday, 23 March.

    The 25-year-old local man was charged with two counts of common assault against an emergency worker, theft from a shop, possession of cannabis, driving without due care and attention, failing to provide a specimen and using threatening behaviour.

    He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, external next month.

    Health bosses in Cambridgeshire are urging people with serious medical issues not to delay getting help.

    The number of people using hospital emergency departments has significantly reduced compared to last year, and clinicians are concerned some patients are not seeking help for important conditions like strokes, heart attacks, meningitis, sepsis and cancer.

    NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, external said fewer people are contacting them to flag early signs of potentially long-term conditions, both physical and mental.

    Dr Gary Howsam, CCG chairman, said: "Whilst GP practices, like my own, have moved to speaking with patients on the telephone first, we are still very much open for business and we really do want to speak to any of our patients that have medical concerns.

    "You can speak to your GP from the comfort and safety of your own home via the telephone or an online (video) service.

    "Then if your GP decides you need to be seen in person, you will be offered a face-to-face appointment."

    Local authority staff in Essex have been redeployed to work on helplines, undertake community patrols and delivering vital supplies.

    Nearly 50 Colchester Borough Council, external workers have taken up the temporary roles to support key services during the coronavirus lockdown, the council said.

    Liberal Democrat leader of the council, Mark Cory, said: "Our staff, who show exceptional commitment at the best of times, have been stretching themselves even further over the last four weeks, and often beyond their comfort zones, to help keep critical front line services going."

    Thames Valley Police, which covers Buckinghamshire, has handed out more than 200 coronavirus lockdown fines in the last month.

    Most of the fines were given to groups of people in public places or driving in a car together.

    A number of people have also been arrested and jailed for coughing at an officer or members of the public.

    A cash fund of £150,000 has been set up to help vulnerable people in Essex affected by Covid-19 and the money has come from a budget available to police, fire and crime commissioner Roger Hirst, external.

    Mr Hirst has formed a partnership with Essex Community Foundation, external (ECF), which set up a coronavirus response and recovery programme to support charities adversely affected by the virus.Mr Hirst said: "ECF is well-known among community and voluntary sector organisations and is well placed to identify need, distribute funds into the community quickly and monitor how effectively they are being utilised."Caroline Taylor, chief executive at ECF, said: "The impact of Covid-19 has meant that charities have seen an unprecedented demand for their services."

    From Monday garden waste collection will start again in Central Bedfordshire, external.

    The council said due to staffing levels stabalising, they will resume.

    It said it will be only be able to collect two garden bags, or one bin per household, due to the "manpower" it has.

    A new coronavirus testing site for key workers has opened on the outskirts of Ipswich.

    The government has requisitioned the park and ride site at the A12/A14 Copdock junction, aiming to test 200 people a day, with a full capacity of 500.

    The tests are by appointment only for NHS and care home staff, police and fire service employees and prison officers.

    The results should be known in a matter of days.

    The former Bedford School pupil and Essex cricketer, Alastair Cook, is yet another celebrity to get behind Captain Tom Moore, who is walking round his Bedfordshire home to raise funds for the NHS.

    The sportsman said Capt Tom posted a video message which called him a "shining example to our generation".

    He also hoped, that despite the 99-year-old being born in Yorkshire, he was not a Yorkshire County Cricket Club supporter.

    On Monday evening the government released, external its latest figures for coronavirus deaths in the UK in the past day.

    In the BBC East region, statistics for each NHS hospital trust show a rise of 46 deaths, the lowest increase in 10 days.

    The total number of deaths at the region's hospitals is now 1,863.

    A figure of a masked angel has been created by a laser cutting company at Terrington St Clement in Norfolk to mark the courage and dedication of staff dealing with coronavirus patients at the Queen Elizabeth ll Hospital, external in King's Lynn.

    The design, by managing director of Javik Laser Creations, external James Hodge, was inspired by his paramedic partner and an NHS worker neighbour "who go out to work every day and put everyone else first".

    Mr Hodge said: "It was done on a new machine and to my own surprise I was successful.

    "I have spoken to the hospital but I do not know where it is going to go yet. I didn't want to get in their way as it has been a fraught day for them losing one of their colleagues and several patients.

    "I just want to say the staff there are a different breed, not seeing their families and knowing all the risks. They are all amazing."

    The plaque on the figure says: "Dedicated to all the staff at the Queen Elizabeth ll Hospital for their tireless work during the coronavirus crisis 2020."

    He has now raised more than £27m for the NHS and is top of the i-Tunes chart after recording a charity version of You'll Never Walk Alone with Michael Ball.

    The 99-year-old, from Marston Moretaine, in Bedfordshire, completed 100 laps of the 25-metre (80ft) loop in his garden well before the deadline of his 100th birthday on 30 April and raised millions for NHS Charities Together.

    The Reverend Gill Webb from Marston, who has known him for many years, says villagers will come together to mark his birthday.

    "The local children of Marston Moretaine I believe are going to make birthday cards and put [them] in their windows," she said.

    "And after the big clap for the NHS on the Thursday of his birthday I think everyone will finish off by singing Happy Birthday in the village."
