  6. Air ambulance ready to welcome back pilot princepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 20 April 2020

    The East Anglian Air Ambulance, external (EAAA) would "welcome back with open arms" the Duke of Cambridge who was a pilot with the organisation for two years up to 2017.

    The service is busy working with the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic transferring patients between hospitals and this is expected to increase to as many as 50 flights a day.. a big rise from its eight flights a day, external before the pandemic.

    In March, Prince William revealed to the national press that he would like to return to the service. He has a house at Anmer in Norfolk which is part of the Queen's Sandringham estate.

    EAAA operations director Matthew Jones said: "Our capacity to help is limited by the number of crews we have.

    "Whatever Prince William decides to do in this crisis is of course very welcome ... whether that's flying an air ambulance or supporting the NHS in other ways."

  7. Ruddy Muddy 'van man artist' tribute to Captain Tompublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 20 April 2020

    Rick Minns, the "white van man artist", has paid tribute to NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore with a montage in mud in his latest creation.

    The Norfolk delivery driver, known as Ruddy Muddy, covers the side of his van in specially prepared mud and uses it as a canvas.

    Mr Minns said he had loads of requests for a tribute, external to the 99-year-old who is pacing up and down his garden in Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire to raise money and has received a van full of complements.

    People have commented on Facebook that the artist had "captured every detail", was "amazing" and Captain Tom epitomised the "bulldog spirit".

    Captain Tom has pledged to keep walking as long as the money rolls in for NHS charities and on Monday morning the former soldier, who lives in Bedfordshire, had raised £26,597,601.

    A drive-through Covid-19 testing centre has opened in Milton Keynes on a "pilot" basis.

    If deemed successful, the site on Grafton Street will become fully operational and allow local NHS staff, carers and their family members to be tested for coronavirus.

    Staff from emergency services, local authorities, defence, prisons and probation organisations, judiciary and front line benefit workers will also be able to use it.

    Glass artist Debbie Burton from Pampisford, near Cambridge, has created 500 pocket hearts and delivered them to staff at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

    She said she wanted to give to front-line workers so they know somebody they love is thinking of them.

    The family of man who worked for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) for 33 years have said their hearts are broken following his death from Covid-19.

    Barry England was a leading operations manager in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

    He was admitted to hospital on Easter Sunday.

    EEAS said: "We offer our sincere condolences to Barry’s family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time."

    A statement issued on behalf of Mr England's family said he was "extremely proud" to have worked for the service.

    "The family would like to thank all the NHS staff who cared for Barry in hospital and for the support being received from his former colleagues," it said.

    Colchester Zoo has welcomed five cheetah cubs to its menagerie.

  16. Nurse treated by colleagues for Covid-19 'felt at home'published at 08:25 British Summer Time 20 April 2020

    A critical care nurse with coronavirus has said being admitted to the unit where she works was "extremely comforting".

    Alison Riseley is recovering at home following treatment at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, where she has worked for 28 years, starting at its former site in Papworth Everard.

    She spent the Easter weekend at the hospital's critical care unit after testing positive for Covid-19 on 9 April.

    "It was so strange when I was told I was being taken to Royal Papworth, yet at the same time extremely comforting because it felt like I was coming home and knew I would be in the best hands," she said.

    "One of my colleagues, who is also a very good friend, came in to look after me two nights in a row, which provided me with a lot of comfort.

    “I just want to thank all staff for their excellent care and compassion."

    Ms Riseley, who had recently been off work due to her asthma, said she must have contracted the virus in the community.
