  3. MP tells Commons that court delays are 'unacceptable'published at 17:30

    Corby MP Tom Pursglove has told the House of Commons he was "shocked" about the amount of court time "wasted owing to the Crown Prosecution Service not having their case ready when it is scheduled".

    His comments follow a recent visit to Corby Magistrates' Court.

    In reply, Solicitor General Robert Buckland said there were reforms coming to speed up the court process and that Mr Pursglove "had reason to be optimistic".

  4. Cobblers Supporters' Trust to meet over HMRC winding-up petition newspublished at 17:18

    Northampton Supporters' Trust are due to meet tonight following the news HM Revenue & Customs have issued a winding-up petition for the club.

    They also say they are meeting Northampton Borough Council tomorrow evening, today being the day when the Cobblers were meant to pay back a £10.25m loan to the council.

  5. Another winding up petition connected to Cobblers in court next weekpublished at 17:12

    One of the reasons the East stand, for which Northampton Borough Council loaned Northampton Town £10.25m, has not been completed, is because of a dispute between the two firms involved in building it.

    Building firm Buckingham Group has issued a winding up petition against contractor County Developments, which is to heard at Birmingham County Court next Thursday, external.

    The winding up petition issued to Northampton Town relates to unpaid money to HM Revenue & Customs, which we understand to be a 'five figure sum'.

    Northampton Borough Council is set to consider giving an extra £525,000 towards the renovation of Delapre Abbey. The revamp is currently costing £6.3m, with £1.34m of that already coming from the council.

    The extra money, which will be discussed at the authority's cabinet on Wednesday 21 October, would be used for more car parking, to construct a shop and educational facilities, to put in superfast broadband and to install a commercial kitchen.
