    Former Northampton Town, external director Tony Clarke says Northampton Borough Council's move to lodge a petition for the administration of the club buys some time - but not that much.

    The council says this will stop the club being wound up at an HMRC hearing on Monday.

    Tony Clarke told BBC Radio Northampton: "These things are complex...but it gets us past next Monday - and that's what most people will want to hear."  

  2. Northampton club crush deaths: people were "hysterical"published at 14:01

    Retired police Inspector Barry Sobers has been giving evidence at an inquest into the deaths of two women at a Northampton nightclub in 2011.

    He told the court in Northampton that the crowd on the stairs it was so noisy he couldn't hear anything from his control room.

    Mr Sobers said he could see the crowds gathering behind the mass of people on the stairs and "people were quite hysterical".  

    Nabila Nanfuka, 22, and 19-year-old Laurene-Danielle Jackson were killed in the crush.

    An insolvency expert has told me it's "very impractical to expect any exit of the situation at Northampton Town , externalthat would not involve administration". 

    Guy Thomas from Taylor Walton was speaking after Northampton Borough Council, external started the process of putting the Cobblers into administration. 

    With the club due to be wound up on Monday the authority says it is trying to "buy time" for a rescue plan to be pulled together.

    Tresham College, external is partly blaming cuts to its budget for missing targets for the recruitment of Higher Education students.

    The College - which has campuses in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough - wanted to recruit at least 660 Higher Education students over the three years from 2012.  But they’ve only managed to attract 317.

    Police have been giving evidence at an inquest into the deaths of two women in a crush at a Northampton nightclub in 2011.

    two women were killed at the crush in the Lava and Ignite club in Northampton in October 2011

    Nabila Nanfuka, 22, and Laurene-Danielle Jackson, 19, both from London, were killed when "disorder" broke out at Lava & Ignite on 18 October 2011.

    Higher Education students at Tresham College in Kettering, external say they prefer to study locally than go to University.  Since 2012, Tresham has been missing its targets for recruiting new Higher Education students.

    Tony Smith is studying an HND in Photography at Tresham’s Kettering campus.  He says it is much cheaper to study locally:  “It worked out that the two years I’ve had here has cost the same as one year at University.”

  11. Northampton Town: NTFC Supporters' Trust reactionpublished at 11:14

    A spokesman for the NTFC Supporters' Trust says it's "imperative that the club is given as much time as possible, to avoid an imminent points deduction".

    "We still believe a number of outcomes are possible and we are working with all parties behind the scenes to reach a positive outcome," he said.

    The Labour group at Northampton Borough Council says it's "probably the right course of action to take" to lodge a petition for the administration of the Cobblers. 

    Councillor Danielle Stone, leader of the opposition group, said: "This seems to be the only realistic way forward."

    It's been a busy morning on Northamptonshire's live page, but as we approach 11:00 we want to take a moment to observe the two-minute silence for Armistice Day.

    Services will be held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire and at military bases, schools, town halls and churches across the UK.

    Armistice Day follows similar ceremonies on Remembrance Sunday to pay tribute to all those who died in World War One and Two and in every conflict since.

    If you're just joining us, Northampton Borough Council has lodged a petition for the administration of Northampton Town. 

    The news comes before a winding-up petition hearing from HM Revenue & Customs on Monday and when ex-Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas is believed to be close to a takeover of the club.

    But what exactly does this mean? Administration is a means of gaining control of a company’s affairs when it is insolvent and under threat from creditors. It places a moratorium (postponement) around a company and stops legal action against it.

    Northampton Town Supporters' Trust has reacted to the council's move to place the club in administration.

    A spokesman said: "We’re grateful for the council responding to our request for an objection before the court, and to seek an administration order which will allow more time to consider the options.  

    "It is imperative that the club is given as much time as possible, and avoids an imminent points deduction."
