    In a press release, Northampton Borough Council said it had lodged a Petition for the Administration of Northampton Town Football Club "in a bid to buy time to pull together a rescue plan for the club and give the borough council more control over its future".

    We told you earlier about ex-serviceman Fred Mynall from Northamptonshire who is struggling to claim compensation from the military after he contracted cancer from asbestos exposure.

    The Royal British Legion says current rules state veterans who develop mesothelioma during service can be left £150,000 worse off than their civilian contemporaries. 

    It says it's unfair, external and is urging people to contact their MP. We'll bring you more from Fred and a response from the government later.

    Tresham College has repeatedly missed its targets for recruiting Higher Education students.

    The college, with campuses in Kettering (pictured), Corby and Wellingborough, wanted to recruit at least 660 students over the three years from 2012 - but it has only attracted 317.

    It is partly blaming cuts to its budget for targets being missed. Its education budget for the current financial year has been reduced by 17%, which equals £508,000.

    An ex-Royal Navy engineer living in Northampton has accused the government of breaking the military covenant. 

    Fred Mynall, 74, has the lung condition mesothelioma, external caused by working with asbestos on board destroyers in the 1950s. 

    The covenant says ex-forces personnel should not be placed at a disadvantage compared to civilians, but he says it's not fair because he cannot sue the Ministry of Defence for compensation. We'll bring you more on this soon.

    The Chronicle and Echo, external reported late yesterday that a businessman has registered AFC Northampton Town Limited and Northampton FC Limited with Companies House.

    It says Northampton Town Football Club faces a winding-up petition hearing on Monday over outstanding tax bills and fans have been warned in the past they may need to think about launching a phoenix club - but it is not known why these two companies have been created.

    The Herald and Post, external is reporting similar news this morning, saying a businessman with former links to Cobblers' rivals Peterborough United has registered the companies.

    Well... signs are that a deal with the consortium fronted by the former Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas is looking increasingly likely. 

    There's been a lot of speculation online amongst fans that today would be the day a takeover of Northampton Town is announced.

    There is this meeting tonight of Northampton Borough Council's cabinet and an agenda item that cryptically says: "Northampton Town Football Club update", but we're being urged not to put too much focus on this meeting or get too excited.
