  1. Hartley named England captain: Only 29 but a Saints player for over a decadepublished at 14:40

    Born and raised in New Zealand, Hartley initially signed for Worcester Warriors before moving to Northampton Saints, who converted him from a prop to a hooker.

    Hartley made his Saints debut in 2005 and during his 280 games for the club he has captained them to the Premiership title and a European final.

    At international level he has amassed 66 caps since his debut in 2008, but has not played since last year's Six Nations because of injury and well-documented disciplinary issues.

    As England's most capped player in the current squad, Hartley seems like the ideal choice as captain, but the 29-year-old has been suspended for on-field incidents for 54 weeks in his career.

    He was banned for two World Cups in 2007 and 2015, as well as one British & Irish Lions tour. 

    Hartley was included in England's World Cup squad in 2011 and was also among the squad members who were photographed on a night out at a "dwarf-throwing" event in New Zealand.

    The 29-year-old, who has captained England once back in 2012, said he was "really excited about the challenge ahead", as he prepares for next month's Six Nations.

    He described the 29-year-old hooker as a "honest, hard-working bloke" and admired "his aggressive and uncompromising approach to playing rugby".

    Hartley's appointment by new coach Eddie Jones is regarded as "big risk" by former England hooker Brian Moore. But England international James Haskell backed the "abrasive" Hartley as someone who will "command respect".

  10. Oundle and Corby-based boat builder Fairline bought out of administrationpublished at 13:50

    At the end of last year, 380 people were made redundant by Fairline Boats when it went into adminstation - but now the firm's assets have been sold to a new company called Fairline Yachts.

    The company, funded by two Russian investors, will continue to operate from Oundle and will invite previous employees to apply for approximately 100 immediately available jobs.

    It is unsure what will happen to the Corby factory.

    It's called Grassroots Out and is backed by UKIP leader Nigel Farage and former defence secretary Liam Fox.

    Mr Farage was at Kettering's Conference Centre for the launch.

    A former police forensics expert says there are things that can be done to identify bodies laid undiscovered for some time, despite a warning from the National Crime Agency that some might never be named.

    Dr John Bond, now at the University of Leicester, says DNA can be extracted from "deep muscle tissue" and that dental records prove vital, especially if the person has "unusual teeth, has had dental work carried out or false teeth".

  17. West End performance for Kettering pupils a 'step up'published at 11:39

    Pupils from Kettering Buccleuch Academy will be performing on a West End stage later today.

    Drummers, singers and technicians from the school will be at London's Lyceum Theatre to perform the choral work Zimbe!, by composer Alexander L'Estrange.

    Head of music, Anna Jenkins, said: "We give them a lot of opportunities to perform within the academy, but it's a step up for them to be able to share that with people beyond the community of the school and Kettering."
