    More customers at The Collingtree have been giving their tributes to India Chipchase, thought to have been murdered in the town.

    The 20-year-old worked at the Northampton pub, where she was described as an "angel".

    Tony Haywood, from Oundle, is remaining modest about his role in World War Two, despite being awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the French president.

    The 90-year-old former hardware store owner took part in the final push against the Germans following the D-Day landings in 1945.

    He says he wasn't "especially brave"...

    There wasn’t any one incident in where I took my life in my hands and risked everything for everyone. It is a great honour but I don’t know whether I’m worthy of it.”

    In court today, Northampton police officer Adrian Goldsmith was told by Judge Paul Gleen that "what was abundantly plain during the course of your trial was that you set about establishing a defence in an attempt to avoid the consequences of your actions."

    He added: "You lied repeatedly to the police, to the doctors who were treating you and to the prison chaplain some weeks later when you were on remand.

    "You had caused injuries to yourself to enable the defence you ran at your trial to get off the ground." He will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison for murdering his wife, Jill.

    A 16-year-old girl fractured her collarbone after being hit by a car while crossing Irthlingborough High Street.

    The driver of the car, which police said was silver, failed to stop at the scene and police are appealing for witnesses, external.

    Officers said it happened on 27 January between 15.15 and 15.25.

    Corby Borough Council has asked residents to choose a sculpture by artist John Atkin to sit outside Corby railway station.

    During the sentencing of Adrian Goldsmith (pictured), Judge Paul Glenn said his wife and victim Jill was "a mother, a daughter and a friend of many". 

    "No sentence the court can impose can even begin to compensate for the loss and anguish the family are feeling," he said.

    A victim impact statement from Mrs Goldsmith's son, Charlie Bailey, said: "My whole family have been left disheartened by what Adrian Goldsmith did and the actions he took. He has left me feeling that there is a massive part of me missing. He should have known above everyone how to calm things down."

    More than 40 offences were recorded in Northampton town centre on Saturday in a police crackdown on the "fatal four" motoring incidents.

    During his sentencing of Northampton police officer Adrian Goldsmith, Judge Paul Glenn told him he over-analysed matters, was pedantic, tactless and had been "scathing" of his wife.

    At Stafford Crown Court he was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years for murdering his wife, Jill.

    Judge Glenn told Goldsmith what he did to his wife was "not premeditated but spontaneous", with use of whatever weapons were to hand and that he had "been in a rage".

    Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a hotel in Corby.

    More than 50 firefighters were called to the Hampton by Hilton in Princewood Road on Saturday afternoon. Nobody was hurt and all 120 guests and members of staff were evacuated.

    Northamptonshire Police said the fire was believed to have spread from an area at the back of the hotel used for rubbish and laundry. Two boys and a girl have been bailed.

    India Chipchase was last seen on Bridge Street, Northampton, at 01:15 on Saturday.

    A body was found on Sunday night in a house on Stanley Road in the St James area of the town.

    The deputy chief constable of Northamptonshire Police says he hopes those affected by the murder of Jill Goldsmith will now have closure, after her husband PC Adrian Goldsmith was jailed for life.

    Customers have paid tribute to a Northampton pub worker thought to have been killed in the town.

    India Chipchase, 20, disappeared in the early hours of Saturday morning. A man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a house on Stanley Road on Sunday.

    Today, people have been laying flowers outside The Collingtree pub where Miss Chipchase worked. Customer Elly Quennell told me she was a "lovely, stunning girl".

  18. Rugby: Saints prop Kieran Brookes joins England squadpublished at 13:15

    England have added Northampton's Kieran Brookes to their Six Nations squad after the prop made a swifter than expected recovery from a knee injury.

    Brookes, originally in the squad before having to undergo surgery in December, proved his fitness in Friday's Premiership match against Wasps.

    He will replace Henry Thomas who had been an injury replacement for Brookes.
