"Final day of the season for Northamptonshire today, we're all trying to hide the sadness by enjoying another beautiful day and a good game with Gloucestershire battling hard for a draw.

"The nominal victory target is 442.

"Chris Dent battled throughout the final day here last season to secure a draw and he's looking to lead his side to safety again.

"Just the one wicket so far, that of the nightwatchman Liam Norwell who couldn't repeat his performance from earlier in the season when he made a century at Derby as nightwatchman."

  2. Molly-Mae Wotherspoon dog death: Banned dog would 'bite and fly at you'published at 11:24 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

I'm at Northampton Crown Court where the mother of a baby killed by an American pit bull in Daventry was sobbing loudly in dock, as sentencing began for her and the child's grandmother.

The prosecution in the case said pit bull Bruiser broke free from his cramped cage in the kitchen and opened the door to the lounge to reach baby Molly-Mae on floor.

The dog then grabbed the six-month-old baby by her head. Grandmother Susan Aucott threw herself across the baby but it was too late.

The court heard the dog's owner, Molly-Mae's mother Claire Riley, knew the dog was aggressive and jealous of her baby and the dog had been kept away from Molly-Mae.

The baby's cries made it an object of prey, the court was told. The attack could be heard during the 999 call and when the police arrived an officer used pepper spray on the dog.

A vet said Bruiser was one of the most dangerous dogs she'd seen. In her notes she wrote he'd "bite and fly at you" and was "very difficult to inject".

  6. Charley Hull's medical records released by 'Russian hackers'published at 08:56 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    BBC News UK

Hackers allegedly from Russia have released more athletes' medical files stolen from the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).

The athletes include British cyclists Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome and Northamptonshire golfer Charley Hull.

There is no suggestion the athletes are involved in any wrongdoing.

Wada says the cyber attack is an attempt to undermine the global anti-doping system.

Hull, 20, competed in the women's tournament at the Rio Olympics finishing 10th. She has not commented on the release.

  18. Rushden attempted murder: 'Better alternatives' needed for young peoplepublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 14 September 2016

    Martin Heath
    BBC Radio Northampton

The head of a group dedicated to improving safety in the East of the County has welcomed the conviction of two men for trying to kill a man in Rushden town centre, but says young people needed more options to prevent them from joining gangs.

Keith Phillips was attacked as he walked along Hayway in July last year. He was shot several times and needed surgery for his wounds.

Narinder Sondhi, 38, and Masimba Tinofirei, 19, both denied attempted murder but were found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Hayway in Rushden

David Oliver, chief executive at East Northamptonshire Council and chair of East Northants Community Safety Partnership, said: "We are very grateful to the police for pursuing this case vigorously and removing these dangerous individuals from our streets.

"Our shared aim is to find better alternatives for vulnerable young people than being drawn into gangs and therefore to reduce their impact on our communities."

  19. More accolades for Duckettpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 14 September 2016

    Alex Winter

Ben Duckett awardImage source, BBC Sport

"Not a bad season for Ben Duckett eh?

    "More than 1,300 Championship runs, 900 List A runs and 477 T20 numbers n'all.

"No surprises then that he's been voted the Northamptonshire Supporters Club Player of the Year and he received his award at the interval here.

"Duckett's helped Northants take control of this game with the lead now over 400 after Richard Levi's 95 - a good end to a poor season.

"But David Murphy is now out in the middle. A year on and we're again potentially watching his final first-class innings - he's again out of contract.

"Last season, he made a fine century down at the Oval, what can sign off with here?"

Narinder Sondhi (below), 38, and Masimba Tinofirei (above), 19, both denied attempted murder but were found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.

Det Insp Lee McBride, who led the investigation, said: "This was an unprovoked incident which has had a lasting impact on the victim, who required surgery as a result of his injuries.

"Neither Tinofirei nor Sondhi have shown any remorse for their actions at any point since the shooting. I am sure their intention was to kill their victim and it is more through luck than judgement that they failed to do so."
