    It will be a dry night with clear spells and some patchy mist and fog. It’ll feel very humid, with temperatures falling no lower than 17-20C (63-68F).

    Temperatures inland could again climb to around 31C (88F), but onshore winds will keep it cooler on the coast.

    Northampton swimmer Ellie Robinson is already inspiring the next generation after her gold medal performance on Friday.

    Nine-year-old Bruce Dee is a member of Northampton Swimming Club and has dwarfism, like Paralympic champions Ellie Simmonds and 15-year-old Robinson, who trains at the same club as Bruce.

    His mother, Maureen, says they're a real inspiration.

    Northampton Town manager Rob Page says Kenji Gorre "has to take the criticism" he is getting from some fans, telling him that "it's part of football, fans have every right to voice their criticism".

    Many fans, both in the stands and on social media, have been critical of the 21-year-old winger, despite the Cobblers' unbeaten start to the season.

    Page said that Gorre, signed on loan from Swansea until January, "has got quality but to get him up to League One level is a patient process".

    Page added the winger has aspects of his game "he's got to work on" but "that's no different from every player in the squad".

    Northamptonshire opener Ben Duckett has been nominated along with seven other young players in the County Championship's 'One to Watch' list for 2016.

    Duckett, 21, has had a stunning season with three double centuries, including one for the England Lions in a one-day game, as well as helping Northants to win the T20 Blast.

    He is nominated alongside Northampton-born Sam Curran. The 18-year-old Surrey all-rounder is the son of former Northants captain Kevin Curran.

    The other players nominated are Nick Gubbins (Middlesex), Haseeb Hameed (Lancashire), Dan Lawrence (Essex), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Jamie Porter (Essex) and Shiv Thakor (Derbyshire).

    The voting closes on Thursday, external and the winner will be announced next Monday.

    Bill Kerr, 65, suffered five cardiac arrests in a little over 24 hours four years ago, with his heart stopping for several minutes on the first occasion.

    Ellie Robinson races once again today in the Paralympics, going in the women's 400m freestyle S6.

    The 15-year-old from Northampton already has one gold after winning the women's 50m butterfly S6 last week.

  12. MPs want government intervention over Coventry sagapublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    MPs are calling on the government and Football League to make sure the Sky Blues stay in Coventry.

    Talks between the club and landlord Wasps over a long-term stay at the Ricoh Arena have broken down, which means the League One club that already spent a year playing home games at Northampton could leave Coventry again in two years' time.

    Sixteen MPs, including Coventry MPs Jim Cunningham and Coleen Fletcher, have signed a Commons motion calling for the resumption of discussions.

    Before they moved to Northampton in 2013/14, Coventry also looked at the possibility of using Nene Park, external, the now empty home of Rushden and Diamonds in Irthlingborough.

    The Northamptonshire Private Hire Association says many drivers are struggling financially and now is not the time to bring in changes, even though the secretary of the association, Kevin Willsher, admits they have "been on the agenda for while".

    Northampton Borough Council will discuss tonight whether to ban cars more than 12 years old from being registered as taxis or private hire vehicles, with all cars being electric or hybrid by 2025.

    But Mr Willsher says the council could look at other ways of cutting emissions, explaining that buses are often stationary in the town centre, with engines running because the new bus station is "too small and not fit for purpose".

    A ban on older and more polluting taxis in Northampton will be discussed tonight. 

    The borough council is looking at cutting emissions by banning cars more than 12 years old being registered for the first time as taxis or private hire vehicles.

    This means more than 200 cars would be affected.

    There's also new emissions guidelines being phased in from 2018, which means by 2025 all vehicles have to be electric or hybrid.

    It appears a motorbike rider has been involved in a crash on the A605 near Oundle this morning.

    The road is currently closed in both directions at the A427 Station Road junction, with the air ambulance in attendance.

    The road is due to reopen soon.

    Ken Ritchie (left), a Labour councillor in Daventry and former chief executive of the Electoral Reform Society, says there is "no logic" to the proposed boundary changes, external to parliamentary constituencies.

    He says the number of MPs in the House of Commons is a "rather arbitrary figure".

    However, Conservative MP for Northampton North Michael Ells (right), says the current boundaries are "unfair", adding the number of people in each needs to be "evened out".

    The Northampton North constituency could gain Park, Riverside and Billing, as well as the whole of the currently divided Rectory Farm.

    Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue was called last night to Sandy Lane in Chapel Brampton, where 300 tonnes of straw had caught fire.

    The boundaries of all the constituencies in Northamptonshire could change following proposals to redraw most election areas in England and Wales.

    The most eye-catching proposal is the Daventry constituency of Chris Heaton-Harris extending over the border into Leicestershire, covering places like Lutterworth, with South Northamptonshire taking some of the existing Daventry area.

    Elsewhere, the whole of Irthlingborough could move from Corby to Wellingborough and Finedon could move into the Kettering constituency.
