  10. The invisible credit card of the futurepublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Kevin Peachey
    Personal finance reporter

Imagine strolling into your local supermarket, popping your essentials into a basket, heading to the bagging area - where no items are unexpected - and walking out with your weekly shop.

There is no need to make a payment, no fiddling with coins, and no placement of a debit or credit card in a terminal. In fact, there is no till at all.

This is not casual shoplifting but a realistic prospect of the future way to pay - when technology recognises your presence, scans your shopping and invisibly takes payment from your account.

    wearable payment technology

Amer Sajed, the chief executive of Barclaycard, based in Northampton, says it will spell the steady demise of the physical plastic credit card which his company introduced to the UK 50 years ago

"People will be able to seamlessly shop going between the web, an app or in store," he says.

It will also create a battle for control of your digital wallet between banks and technology companies, as well as prompt debate over our privacy and security.

  11. Deal close to keep Corby Tata steel plant openpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Pete Cooper
    BBC Local Live

It's understood that unions are close to agreeing a deal with Tata steel which would keep the Port Talbot works open along with other plants across the UK, including Corby.

Talks were held between the company and unions last week, where it's thought the issues of pensions, production and jobs were discussed. It's thought a deal could emerge this week.

    Tata Steel

The future of the Port Talbot plant and other Tata plants has been in doubt since job losses were announced and the UK business was put up for sale in March.

The UK and Welsh governments came in with offers of financial support, but it was always thought that the main stumbling block to a deal would be the burden of the company's pension scheme.

It's unclear what deal might be struck on the pensions issue.
