The dance project in memory of ballet dancer Jonathan Ollivier, who was killed in a motorbike crash hours before a show, has been funded from donations after his family set up a fundraising page.

His sister Rachel Ollivier told me it was "really important [to the family] that we actually gave back, because people were so generous in terms of wanting to donate towards Jon following his accident".

"We're really trying to get people involved with the theatre regardless of their backgrounds and trying to break down the perception that it's only people that are potentially more monied that go into this line of work," she said.

"It's also nice to see there are so many lads involved which is really, really important, because I think the younger generation of lads are saying, 'I'm not doing that, I'm playing football', and the thing is you can do it all. Jon did it all."

She said she thought Jonny would be "a massive supporter of it and love the fact that it's actually come from his own town".

"There have been many times over the years where interviews have been conducted with Jon because he had come back to his home town so it's about building on that," she said.

  2. Jonathan Ollivier: 'Lived life to the full'published at 09:07 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2016

Jonathan Ollivier, 38, started dancing as a boy in Northampton and began his professional career at Cape Town City Ballet, also dancing for companies including the Northern Ballet Theatre and the Alberta Ballet Company in Canada.

He worked on a number of roles with Sir Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company including The Swan in Swan Lake, and, on his death, was described by Bourne as an "irreplaceable artist".

The Northampton project has created a dance piece based on a theme of aspiration and ambition because, according to those taking part, he "grasped every opportunity".

It has focused on young people who may have little or no previous experience of dance, with a particular emphasis placed upon encouraging young men - all too often averse to dance training - to take part.

Sophia Hurdley, from New Adventures, one of two dance practitioners leading the group, said: "Jonny always went for things in life, he wasn't afraid, he lived his life to the full, and we wanted to take that message onto the youth of today and go 'look, go for your dreams, he did, go for what you believe in'.

    "He'd think it was cool."

Jonathan Ollivier was killed in a motorbike crash hours before the final show of Matthew Bourne's The Car Man at London's Sadler's Wells, in August 2015.

Sixteen young people, aged between 13 and 21, have been taking part in A Project For Jonny, funded by donations after his death, and will perform a piece at the Royal theatre in Northampton later.

His family set-up a fundraising page with donations being split equally between Re:Bourne, the charitable arm of Sir Matthew's New Adventures company, and the London Air Ambulance.

In this joint venture between Re:Bourne and the theatre, the youngsters have created a dance piece based on a theme of aspiration and ambition, led by the New Adventures company.

It will be performed as a curtain raiser to the venue's Christmas show - Peter and the Starcatcher - and introduced by Sir Matthew himself.

Northampton Town manager Rob Page says it looks like striker JJ Hooper will be moving back to Port Vale in the new year.

The 23-year-old (right with Marc Richards) was re-signed on loan from the Cobblers' League One rivals earlier in the season, but has been out injured.

Page told me he hopes to have him available for the next few games at least.

  13. Leader of county council 'not comfortable' with council tax rise to fund social carepublished at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Stuart Ratcliffe
    BBC Look East

The leader of Northamptonshire County Council says the announcement on extra funding for adult social care from the government will only be "scratching the surface".

Local authorities have been told they can bring forward council tax rises to cover costs over the next two years, but Heather Smith said that extra 1% still leaves the council "with another £32m we need to take out of adult social care".

    Heather Smith

Ms Smith said the council would reluctantly put up council tax by the extra 1%, taking the planned increase to 4.95%.

But the leader of the Conservative administration said: "I'm being asked to do things I just don't feel comfortable with."

  14. Council and Poppies supporters to discuss possible new groundpublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

Talks are to be held between Kettering Borough Council and Kettering Town Football Club Supporters' Trust about a future home for the club in the town.

Supporters have suggested Weekley Glebe Playing Fields and adjoining land known as French's Field as a possible site for a new football stadium.

The club currently plays at Latimer Park in Burton Latimer, having previously played at Rockingham Road from 1897 until 2011.

That ground, currently unused, has twice been denied "Asset of Community Value" status by the council. This would prevent it being used for anything other than a football ground.

  15. Nico Rosberg: No Mercedes replacement for retired world champion until new yearpublished at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Andrew Benson
    Chief F1 writer

Mercedes will not reveal the identity of world champion Nico Rosberg's replacement until the new year.

The German announced his retirement last month, five days after winning his first world title and despite signing a new two-year deal in July.

Brackley-based Mercedes have the problem of finding a team-mate for Lewis Hamilton when all leading drivers are signed elsewhere.

They want to sign Williams' Valtteri Bottas, but have so far not been able to negotiate a deal for the Finn.

A Mercedes spokesman said the team would not reveal any decision before 3 January, and added that did not mean there would be an announcement on that date.

The college, which has campuses in Kettering, Corby and Silverstone, was due to start work on a new £12.4m building.

The demolition of its site in Wellingborough (pictured), which the college owns, will continue and after the current group of 60 students complete their qualifications, courses will be in Corby.

The college is to discuss the future of the site with either Northampton or Bedford College, one of which it plans to merge with.
