  9. New grammar schools would benefit just six areas, says studypublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    BBC News England

There are only six areas in England, one of which is Northamptonshire, where parents want new grammar schools and creating them would benefit the wider school population, according to a study.

The Education Policy Institute (EPI) modelled the impact of government plans to expand selective schools by looking at how 32,844 districts would be affected.

Using a series of criteria set out in the government's White Paper, Schools that Work for Everyone, the EPI found only Solihull, Essex, North Yorkshire, Dorset, Northamptonshire and North Somerset would meet the school expansion principles.

The government called the study a crude attempt to second-guess the results of its consultation on new schools.

In a statement afterwards, Mr Patel said the meeting was constructive, adding it will continue to work with Mr Mackintosh as MP.

Mr Mackintosh said in a statement: "It was a productive meeting and I will continue to work with local Conservatives to deliver for ordinary working people across Northampton South."
