    BBC News

Northamptonshire Police began investigating Nicholas and Joan Taylor in 2014.

Nicholas Taylor (below) had presented himself in interviews to the BBC as a reformed criminal - but instead the couple have been found guilty at Leicester Crown Court of rapes, assaults and sexual abuse against 11 victims - some as young as 11 years old.

    NIcholas Taylor

Det Insp Adam Pendlebury described Nicholas Taylor as "a dangerous, depraved individual" and Joan Taylor as his "more than willing accomplice".

He said: "The Taylors were master manipulators who used crack cocaine to force their victims to engage in sexual activity against their will, and their actions have had a devastating impact on their victims' lives."

They will be sentenced in May.

    BBC News

We now have more from Leicester Crown Court, where a couple from Northampton have been convicted of child abuse.

Nicholas Taylor, 47, and his wife, Joan, 43, committed crimes against 11 children - boys and girls - between 1996 and 2006.

Most of the abuse took place at their home in Briar Hill, the court heard.

The jury was told their victims were given class-A drugs and then assaulted, sexually abused and, in some cases, raped.

They found the couple guilty of 84 charges and it took 15 minutes to read all the verdicts.

They also pleaded guilty to 10 additional charges and were cleared of 17.

Before sentencing in May, the court will hear from victims about how their lives have been affected.

    Sam Read
    BBC Radio Northampton politics reporter

Northamptonshire Police has asked the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider charges over general election expenses in the Northampton North constituency, the BBC understands.

The Conservative MP Michael Ellis has not responded to repeated requests for comment.

    Michael Ellis MP

In total 12 forces have sent files to the CPS relating to Conservative candidates' expenses incurred during the 2015 General Election.

Northamptonshire Police says this is a "live inquiry" and it will not comment further.

It comes after complaints about the way Conservative "battle bus" visits to constituencies had been recorded in campaign spending returns.

    Stuart Bailey
    BBC News

Northampton Town says a "big step" has been taken towards resuming work on the club's unfinished East Stand.

Building work began in May 2014 but has been halted on a number of occasions because of a long-running legal dispute.

The unfinished East Stand at Sixfields.

The club says a legal deal has been reached over the lease of a "parcel" of land at Sixfields, which was owned by County Developments (Northampton) Limited (CDNL).

The company, directed by former Cobblers' chairman David Cardoza and his father Anthony, went into administration in 2015.

The club says a deal has been reached with administrators and those owed money by this company.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas said while more legal deals need to be signed, the club is "a lot closer" than it was to restarting work on the stand.

  10. Bed shortage blamed for Northampton A&E delayspublished at 11:23 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2017

    Stuart Bailey
    BBC News

Meanwhile, accident and emergency patients in Northampton face delays in being treated because of a bed shortage in other departments, according to the hospital's boss.

We told you earlier how A&E waiting times at Northampton General had increased over the past three years.

    Northampton General Hospital

Chief operating officer, Deborah Needham, said the department often had patients waiting to be admitted.

"We have about 150 patients elsewhere in the hospital who are waiting to go back out into the community with additional care, or waiting for a rehab bed in a community hospital," she said.

"If we can't get those patients out, it's hard to get patients in.

"But we've made some big improvements around patient flow in the past year, by trying to make sure we have enough empty beds earlier in the day."

  11. Patients still using Kettering A&E 'unnecessarily'published at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2017

    Stuart Bailey
    BBC News

Kettering's accident and emergency department is still seeing an increasing number of patients who could have been helped elsewhere, according to the hospital's chief operating officer.

    Kettering General Hospital

We told you earlier how waiting times there are continuing to rise.

Rebecca Brown urged people to think carefully before using the service, but said other issues faced by the department were trickier to solve.

"Kettering has a growing population and an ageing one," she said.

"We've also seen a big rise in the number of patients who face delays in being discharged from hospital, mainly for social care reasons.

"That puts extra pressure on our beds when we are not able to get patients where they need to be."

  13. City congestion leads to changes to bus timetablespublished at 08:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2017

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC Local Live

If you regularly drive into Leicester you'll know that at times it can feel like one big traffic jam on our roads.

Well the bus company Arriva has said congestion has become such an issue, they're having to change the timetable and routes for some of their services.

    Arriva bus

The services that will change are:

    • 31/31A (Leicester - Oadby)
    • 44/44A (Leicester - West Knighton and Wigston Fields)
    • 49 (Leicester - Wigston Harcourt)
    • 58 (Lutterworth - Market Harborough)

More information will be made available next month when Arriva holds "roadshows" for passengers.

    Bus users

Simon Mathieson from Arriva said: "We have a system that tracks all our buses all the time and we've built up a database of actual times buses are taking to get between places.

"That is saying it's taking longer to get between places like Haymarket, the Clock Tower and sections of Narborough Road.

"We've got to keep up to pace with the modern world of the county and the city."

  18. Focusing young minds on school subject choicespublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    Martin Borley
    BBC Radio Northampton

I've spent the afternoon in Corby watching primary school children making skateboard ramps and using scooters.

It sounds like fun, but there's a serious message behind today's activities at Adrenaline Alley.

The event was highlighting the importance of STEAM subjects - that's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

    Children doing STEAM activities

Linda Davis-Sinclair, from the University of Northampton, told me: "There's a need, particularly with our girls, to keep them focused on the science and engineering as they're going through school.

"Some of the decisions they make about subjects early on, as 10 and 11 year olds, may impact on what they can actually do when they choose GCSE subjects."

  20. Start date for Towcester roundaboutpublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    Martin Heath
    BBC Radio Northampton

A start date has been announced for the construction of a new roundabout opposite the entrance to Towcester Racecourse.

It'll be the first piece in the Towcester South Development jigsaw, which will eventually include nearly 3,000 homes, employment space and the A5 relief road.

Preliminary work to widen an existing road will take place next Monday and Tuesday, and the construction of the roundabout itself will begin on 27 March. It's likely to be finished in the autumn.

Lanes on the A5 will be narrowed for the next 12 weeks, but traffic will still be allowed to pass in both directions.
