  5. A605 crash: One person airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuriespublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

We've just had an update from the ambulance service on the condition of two people hurt in a road accident on the A605 in Elton this morning...

They say that one person with life-threatening injuries has been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment.

A second patient, with an arm injury, did not need transport to hospital.

The road between Warmingdon and the B671 at Elton remains closed.

  6. 'I believed that everybody in my life would be better off if I was dead'published at 13:32 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    Stuart Linnell
    BBC Radio Northampton

As part of Metnal Health Awareness Week, I've been speaking to the former Northampton Town captain Clarke Carlisle.

Refering to the statistic that one-in-four of us are touched by mental health problems, he said:

"If you're one of the three-in-four that hasn't suffered from a mental health issue, then it's still relevant for you to know your own journey, and take an interest in other people.

"You might be the person who directs that one-in-four towards vital services."

In December 2014, Carlisle, who ended his playing career with the Cobbler tried to take his own life. He suffered serious injuries, but survived and, on leaving hospital, said he had been suffering from mental health issues.

"I genuinely believed at that point that everybody in my life would be better off if I was dead," he said.

"The notion to kill myself was not an escape, it was the logical answer to what was going on. That's what happens when you let depression take such a grip of you."

If you feel you need to turn to someone to talk to for your own sake, or if you're worried about someone else, you can call Samaritans in total confidence. Their number is 116 123.

  7. 'One of the hardest things for any adult to get is time to themselves'published at 12:32 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    Stuart Linnell
    BBC Radio Northampton

15 years ago, Clarke Carlisle was awarded the title of "Britain's Brainiest Footballer" in a TV game show.

He was chairman of the management committee of the player's union, the Professional Footballers' Association. In the latter part of his playing days, he played for and captained Northampton Town.

On the morning of 22 December 2014, Carlisle tried to take his own life. He suffered cuts, bruises, internal bleeding, a broken rib and a shattered left knee, but after leaving hospital he stated publicly that he had suffered from mental health issues and that he had attempted to kill himself.

Three years before that Gary Speed, then manager of Wales, was found hanging at home, although the coroner said she could not conclude he definitely intenced to kill himself.

In the last few weeks the former England international Aaron Lennon was detained under the Mental Health Act over concerns for his welfare.

Such issues don't just affect footballers of course.

The most popularly quoted statistic is that one in four of us will suffer a mental health problem at some point in our lives. This is Mental Health Awareness Week, and I've been talking to Clark Carlisle about what he went through and the importance of paying attention to our mental health.

He told me that "one of the hardest things for any adult to get is time to themselves," and began by telling me that the one-in-four figure can be misleading...

  8. Criticism over delays to electrify the length of railway linepublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

The latest stage of work in the electrification of the Midland Mainline which serves Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough takes place this weekend.

On Sunday, Northamptonshire's Lord-Lieutenant David Laing will unveil a plaque at Kettering railway station marking 160 years since the arrival of the railway in the town.

Work on the line from Bedford to Corby is due to be complete by 2019, but there's criticism over a lack of plans to do the same on the stretch from Northamptonshire to Sheffield.

"We need the whole programme committed, even if it's over a longer time," said Christopher Groome from the Kettering Rail Users' Group.

"The first thing is to upgrade the line and secondly to put the electrification in.

"The programme that was originally devised was going to do that."

In 2013, a five-year plan was announced to electrify the route from London to Sheffield through the east midlands. It was "paused" in June 2015, but resumed later that year.

Ariadne Tampion, chair of the East Midland Rail Future group, added that it seems "perverse" that the controversial new high-speed rail network known as HS2 is going ahead while there is still diesel power on the Midland Mainline.

The BBC approached Network Rail for comment, but due to next month's general election they said they were unable to comment.

    Graham McKechnie

Northamptonshire's hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup came to an end with a heavy defeat against Yorkshire yesterday.

The county lost by 164 runs at Wantage Road - bowled out for just 136 in reply to the visitors' 300-6, as Gary Ballance (pictured) made 152 not out.

The result was Northamptonshire's fourth-heaviest defeat in terms of runs in 54 years of one-day cricket.

"It's been story of our competition," said disappointed Northants head coach David Ripley.

"We've good patches of play, but we haven't been consistent, and when we've been bad - actually - we've been pretty bad."

Despite their elimination, Northamptonshire still have two games left to play in the 50-over competition.

They are away to Leicestershire tomorrow, then home to Nottinghamshire on Tuesday.

    Martin Heath

Plans have been submitted for a new school at RAF Croughton - an US air base near Brackley.

It follows the planned closure of three other bases used by the USAF - RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk and RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire announced in 2015 - and means 1,300 extra personnel will be relocated to Croughton by 2022.

RAF Croughton - located off the B4031 - has an elementary (primary) school for 60 children up to the age of 11, but the new building will cater for 470 pupils of all ages and 60 staff.

The pupils will follow a US curriculum and some will have to be transported in by bus from off-site accommodation.

The school is likely to get planning permission next week.
