  1. Batman fans will 'dig deep to help Gotham'published at 13:33

    Meanwhile, back in Gotham...

    Steve Smith, who runs a podcast called Gotham Geeks in New York, says Batman fans in the USA will come to the village's rescue.

    Batman writer Bill Finger named the fictional city after the Nottinghamshire village.

    "Knowing that Bill Finger took the name of Batman's hometown from a real place and now the people in that place need help, I feel that any Batman fan would jump at the chance to say they helped Gotham," Mr Smith said.

    A seven-year-old girl was offered a loaded gun for a photograph before it was accidentally fired, her mother told investigators.

    The girl suffered a minor injury when a bullet casing hit her after the assault rifle was shot into the ground at Nottinghamshire Police's headquarters.

    Listeners have been telling BBC Radio Nottingham's Mark Dennison what they think when they see people not wearing a poppy.

    Alan says: "I couldn't think of not wearing a poppy, but if someone else isn't wearing a poppy that's not my problem. It's down to personal choice. A lot of those wars were fought for freedom."

    "I'm an ex-soldier and I wear one, but I don't have a problem if people don't want to wear one," says Mal.

    And Glenys says: "It does upset me when I see people not wearing a poppy. We should respect the men who fought for us."

    Here's what Nottnghamshire Police have had to say about the IPCC's findings following their look at the assault rifle case. 

    "We welcome the findings of the IPCC's report which identifies a number of learnings for the Force" Temporary Detective Superintendent Paul Murphy said. 

    "We will take on board the recommendations and implement those that are not already in place".

    The police watchdog has just told us an officer who accidentally fired his assault rifle into the ground, injuring a seven-year-old girl with a bullet casing, at Nottinghamshire Police's HQ, has faced a gross incompetency hearing. 

    The IPCC concluded officers armed with live weapons should not be involved in public events.

    It also criticised the force for not having a policy in place regarding firearms at public events. 

    The officer has been removed from firearms duties.

    It was supposed to be a secret but after years of rumours about whether Derby could have a tram like Nottingham's, it now seems to be very near the top of the local wish list.

    The 19 councils of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire have told the government what they want to get out of devolution - and this is one of the "priority projects". 

    It'd connect Derby up to the planned high speed rail station near Long Eaton, but also take in East Midlands Airport.
