Nottingham University Hospitals Trust has said if it takes over Sherwood Forest trust, it will remain focussed on the needs of the QMC and the City Hospital.

    Quote Message

We enter this exercise with the single objective of doing what is best for patients in Nottinghamshire and securing a sustainable health and social care system for the local community in the future. We of course remain very mindful that any support provided to Sherwood Forest in the short to medium term must be balanced exquisitely with our requirement to retain a clear focus on delivering our own ambitious agenda at NUH, not least addressing our significant financial challenges and sustaining our strong performance (and in some cases improving) across the full range of patient safety, experience and access standards.”

    Peter Homa, Chief executive, NUH

Sherwood's interim chief executive Peter Herring said: "Whilst we are already making good progress in addressing the concerns raised by the Care Quality Commission’s report, we believe we could make more rapid progress and improvements by formally combining with another NHS organisation."

Stuart Broad's remarkable bowling was the key to the third Test victory but James Taylor took two stunning catches.

And he's been at it again, somehow moving into the line of fire to block the ball at close range and then using various parts of his anatomy to stop it hitting the deck, cling on and give Moeen Ali the wicket of Dean Elgar.

  16. Labour faces battle to get tax rise throughpublished at 09:18

    Peter Saull
    BBC Radio Nottingham Political Reporter

The county council announced its budget proposals in early December and even then, it looked bad.

There were cuts to services - and more than 100 job losses - as part of plans to save £60m but this was before the government announced how much money it was giving to councils - and for Nottinghamshire, it was far worse than expected.

To make up the shortfall, the ruling Labour group wants to take up a new option of charging taxpayers an extra 2% to help cover the cost of social care - but politics could get in the way.

Labour is short of an overall majority - and while the original budget plans got cross party agreement - the Conservatives are unlikely to back a hike in council tax.
