The county council's planning group manager,  Sally Gill, also said while officers were "aware of the restrictive covenants covering the site" they had sought legal advice and were told the laws related to private property.

The county council's planning report has recommended the proposals at Misson are approved but Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust says it will be at the meeting making a strong case against the plans.

Erin McDaid, from the Trust, says the site falls within a protected nature reserve and they have yet to hear from the developers about how the area and wildlife will be protected.

    Erin McDaid

"This is one of the most protected sites in the country and these laws are put in place to protect them from developments," he said. "But if that protection stands for nothing against this development, then what does it stand for?".

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: "This type of fracking has been developed successfully in the US and we are seeing the impacts of that with the reduction of oil prices from $110 to $40 - even as low as $27."

  11. Last effort to stop Misson 'fracking' planspublished at 08:27 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    BBC Radio Nottingham

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is making a last ditch effort to stop plans which could lead to fracking in north Nottinghamshire.

It's urging the county council to reject proposals for exploratory drilling in Misson - because a covenant on the site prevents "noxious or damaging activity".

A planning officer's report says such covenants are not "a material planning consideration" and they will consider the application at a meeting today.
