Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has said it's deeply disappointed Nottinghamshire County Council has voted in support of an application for exploratory drilling at Misson

The site is just 125m from the charity’s Misson Carr Nature Reserve.

However, in a statement, the trust said it's "pleased" councillors have insisted on a more rigorous monitoring regime than was previously proposed.

Head of conservation, Janice Bradley said: “This has been a long and complicated fight and we had hoped that councillors would take the precautionary approach to protecting the SSSI and its scarce wildlife, especially as, together with local campaigners, we had raised a number of concerns over the interpretation of planning policy."

We are at a critical juncture in the future of our energy mix and supply as we move away from coal towards lower carbon energy sources. We now have the consent to develop a hydrocarbon well site and drill up to two exploratory hydrocarbon wells (one vertically and one horizontally) to help us better understand the shale gas potential in North Nottinghamshire."

He's said it sounds accurate because even supporters of leaving the EU are divided about what to do next.

Former Cabinet minister, Mr Clarke, who's a prominent Remain campaigner, said he did not know who had written the memo, which the government says it does not recognise.

But he argued it was obvious a proper policy was now needed.
