Erin McDaid, from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, said news that the birds were frequenting gardens in Mansfield came as "something of a surprise".
"They are more likely to be seen in orchards, parks and large gardens where there is a reliable food supply, and it seems that these birds have taken a shine to Berry Hill."
Having first been recorded as breeding in this country in 1969 in Kent, they've now been spotted as far north as the Scottish borders.
Mr McDaid said if it's true that the parakeets have been spotted for a year, it could mean they're breeding here in Nottinghamshire, which would be a first.
