BBC News OnlineThree years ago a similar display using live penguins at Nottingham's Broadmarsh shopping centre was cancelled because of complaints from the public.
In a statement Idlewells said the event would "both educate and delight" its customers.
It continued: "Following a surprise visit to the home of these penguins and speaking with experts directly, we were 100% whole-heatedly confident these animals are extremely social and actually enjoy being with humans."
