    Kirsty Henderson, from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The only thing we teach children by taking them to events like this is that it is ok to take animals from the wild and breed them into lives of captivity to entertain ourselves.

    "There's so many ways we can give our children magical Christmas experiences without exploiting these animals."

    The Idlewells Shopping Centre has posted more details on their Facebook page, external about the penguin event.

    It said there would be three or five penguins at the event which would help people learn more about the animal.

    National Grid engineers are still working to resolve issues in Southwell after yesterday's flooding.

    A spokeswoman from Minster School has told us it's still open but they have no heating or hot water at the moment. 

    The Southwell Leisure Centre is also open with the normal pool operating as normal. There are no hot showers there though.

    The emergency services are all at an accident in Chesterfield Road South in Mansfield.

    The crash involved two cars and the fire service said one person had been taken to hospital.

    The road is closed in both directions and police are directing traffic.

    An animal welfare campaign group has criticised plans to bring live penguins to a Nottinghamshire shopping centre. 

    They'll be part of a Christmas event at the Idlewells in Sutton-in-Ashfield this coming Friday.

    Bosses at the centre say the penguins are bred humanely and enjoy interacting with people but Kirsty Henderson from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals disagrees.

    Supt Ted Antill  told BBC Radio Nottingham the reference to positive discrimination was "regrettable".

    He said encouraging people from ethnic minority and gay communities to apply was "purely to try and ensure our workforce better representatives the communities we are working in".

    He said they were not excluding anybody and there would be no preferential treatment, with everyone recruited "on merit".

    Fran Loi, chairman of Nottinghamshire county UKIP, was one of those who tweeted the force.

    He told the BBC the force's policy was "concerning" and adverts like that "create division".

    He added: "If I was a victim of crime I don't care what sexuality, race or ethnic heritage the officer, they are just as qualified to solve it. I think they should be selecting on the basis of their ability."

    Nottinghamshire Police has come under fire on social media after an equality officer tweeted they wanted to recruit more people from ethnic minority and gay communities. 

    The force is starting a recruitment drive in January and the post led to to questions and accusations about the force's stance on diversity and the way it recruits.

    We've had to look at the derelict land behind our offices for a very long time.

    In fact the previous owner got permission to build houses on it in 2008 but they have done nothing since.

    City council leader Jon Collins, said: "We have waited far too long for someone to fulfil this site’s potential and we look forward to seeing Lavignac’s plans to turn Eastside from a derelict area into a site the city can be proud of."

    A deal has been announced to sell Nottingham's Island Site - which houses buildings like the NHS and our offices here at the BBC.

    Lavignac Securities has exchanged contracts to develop the 38 acres of land just off London Road.

    After yesterday's rainfall, Mansfield Town's match against Blackpool tonight looked in doubt, but the One Call Stadium has passed a pitch inspection this morning.

    Head groundsman Michael Merriman said they were "good to go" for tonight and added: "The pitch has drained really well overnight, which was very positive to see after it was under water yesterday."
