    Derby's Silk Mill is expected to shut its doors later this month ahead of a £16m transformation.

    It's expected to remain closed for around two years to prepare exhibitions which will form part of the new "Museum of Making", and showcase more artefacts. 

    However it will remain open for school visits and special occasions - just not for the public.

    Conservative MP for Harborough Sir Edward Garnier has told the BBC he is surprised at Theresa May's call for a general election but that he understands her reasons.

    He said: "Despite the difference within the Conservative Party with Brexit or Remain, I have never seen the Conservative party more united as a parliamentary body.

    "This is in stark contrast to what I see in the chamber with the Labour Party, who look totally demoralised under their current leadership."

    Jacob Butterfield's first goal for over a year rescued a point for Derby County as Gary Rowett's team held Huddersfield to a 1-1 draw at Pride Park. 

    The result means Brighton are promoted to the Premier League. They haven't been in the top flight for 34 years.

    A man had his bag snatched while walking along a footpath in Derby.

    The robbery happened on 11 April on the path that runs parallel to Whitecross Gardens.

    Officers say the robber grabbed the victim's bag and then ran off towards Quarn Gardens.

    He has been described as white and was wearing a black coat.

    Derbyshire Police, external want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the robbery.

    Justifying the decision to call a general election, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not."

    She added: "We need a general election and we need one now. We have at this moment a one-off chance to get this done... before the detailed talks [on Brexit] begin."

    The announcement came as a surprise this morning. Mrs May said she will now have to seek permission for the early election from the House of Commons.

    In Nottingham it's a similar story.

    The city council said 3,345 (89%) will be going to their first choice school in September and 217 (6%) have got their second choice.

    This figure is up 2% from last year.

    In Nottinghamshire, 8,191 (92.2%) of children have their first choice school, while 403 (4.5%) have their second option and 100 (1.1%) their third.
