    In Leicestershire nine out of 10 pupils have secured a place at their first choice primary school.

    The county council said 6,624 (91.3%) have been offered their preferred option, 361 (4.9%) have received their second choice and 76 (1%) their third. 

    In Leicester, the city council said more children than ever had been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

    This breaks down to 4,057 (89.1%) children being given their first choice, 265 (5.8%) their second preference and 52 (1.1%) their third choice.

    The owners of a Peak District pub say they won't stop selling foie gras, despite receiving what they've called "fake reviews and hateful messages" from animal rights protesters. 

    The luxury food, which is made from the liver of ducks or geese that are often force-fed, is currently on the menu at the Bridge Inn at Calver.

    The Champions League fan zone is back in Leicester's Jubilee Square. 

    It's being set up this morning for Atletico Madrid fans to gather in ahead of tonight's quarter-final match against Leicester City. 

    More than 1,000 of them are expected in the city for the second leg.

    Parents across the East Midlands will find out today whether their children have been allocated their first choice primary school places. 

    In Nottinghamshire, it follows a u-turn on a controversial admissions policy which saw some siblings being split up and sent to different schools.

    A 22-year-old man was found with minor injuries on 11 April in Overdale Road, Old Basford after the suspected shooting.

    Over the weekend a 24-year-old was charged with affray and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court next month.

  10. Hannah Bladon stabbing: 'Attacker attempted suicide'published at 09:25 British Summer Time 18 April 2017

    Israeli authorities have said they're moving away from treating the death of a Burton woman as an act of terrorism.

    Hannah Bladon, 20, was stabbed and killed on a tram in Jerusalem on Good Friday.

    According to the Jerusalem Post, external, Jamil Tamimi, 57, attacked the 20-year-old student as part of a failed suicide attempt.

    Tamimi is due to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

    Ms Bladon was studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem at the time of her death and had been taking part in an archaeological dig that morning.

    Thirteen-year-old McKinley Chambers was robbed after he fell into a diabetic coma and collapsed.

    The Notts County fan had been at football practice and was on his way home in the Meadows.

    After hearing about his ordeal, the Magpies invited him for a VIP day out yesterday and his dreams came true as he scored a goal at Meadow Lane.

    A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Mapperley Park.

    Eighteen-year-old Matthew Rothery (pictured) died in hospital after he was found by police on Woodborough Road early on Friday.

    Nathan Towsey of Braunton Crescent has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place - and is due before magistrates this morning.
