Frustrated customers in parts of Nottinghamshire have been left without water again this morning.

Severn Trent has apologised after many homes were cut off on the hottest day of the year yesterday.

Supply was restored in the early hours of this morning, but there have been further interruptions in Arnold today.

The firm said an 'unprecedented demand' meant it was taking longer to restore water than usual.

Sarah O'Kane from Severn Trent Water said: "As everybody knows it is a massive heatwave at the moment, and the demand for water has gone through the roof.

"When we got the equipment fixed yesterday really quickly, it was taking much longer to fill the system back up again because as soon as we put water back into the system, people were using it and taking it out again."

Police in Leicestershire need to improve "vitally important" areas of its child protection plans, a report published today says.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, which looked over the force's files in February, said it needed to better understand the links between children who regularly go missing and child sexual exploitation.

Inspectors also raised concerns about some high risk domestic abuse cases being downgraded, which could expose victims to extra risk.

Roger Bannister, deputy chief constable of Leicestershire Police, said cutbacks to their budget meant they have put an even greater emphasis on giving officers the right training.
