  13. Dry weather means water courses 'lower than usual'published at 12:13 British Summer Time 22 June 2017

    Dave Wade
    BBC Local Live

It's gone a bit grey and, mercifully, a little cooler than recent days here in the East Midlands.

But due to the unusually dry conditions, we've had some advice from the Environment Agency and Severn Trent.

“Following a dry winter and spring, some rivers, groundwaters and reservoirs are lower than normal for the time of year," an Environment Agency spokesman said.

It's working with water companies, businesses and farmers to minimise the potential impacts to people and the environment should the dry weather continue.

The spokesman added: “We always advise that everyone uses water wisely – especially during a period of dry weather."

    hosepipe

Severn Trent said it's seeing a higher than usual demand on water but things are currently "fine".

The water firm, which supplies most of the region, said people should take some precautions to preserve water, including:

    • Water plants in the evening with a watering can
    • Go easy on watering the lawn, maybe set the mower a bit higher
    • Wash the car with a bucket and sponge, not a hosepipe, or just wash the windows, lights and mirrors

  15. Burst pipes and discoloured water in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershirepublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 22 June 2017

    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

Severn Trent Water says it is dealing with two burst pipes and reports of discoloured water in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Engineers are currently fixing burst water pipes in Woodgate Lane in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, and Keyham Lane East, in Scraptoft, Leicester. This may cause water supplies in the NG12 and LE7 areas to be off or at low pressure for some customers.

Meanwhile, the water company says it has received reports of discoloured water in the Birstall and Wanlip area of Leicester.

Severn Trent says the reason for this could be a result of the way they've moved water around the network "to meet the high demand we’ve been experiencing".
