    A shortlist has been announced for the next round of the Green Plaque Awards Scheme in Leicestershire.

    Among the list of 12 people and places is George Fox from Fenny Drayton. He was the founder of the Quaker movement.

    Leicestershire County Council wants you to vote for your top six, external on the list. The six with the most votes will then get a green plaque.

    Among those that have already received a green plaque in the county is the Loughborough racehorse Sunloch...

    An 83-year-old man has gone missing from his home in Spondon, Derbyshire Police has said, external.

    Maurice Smith left his home in a silver Vauxhall Corsa, registration SA06 FXE.

    It has recently been found parked on Stenson Road in Stenson Fields.

    Officers are asking people in Stenson Fields to check their back gardens, garages, sheds and outbuildings for any sign of Mr Smith.

    Mr Smith is described as white, slim, 5ft 10ins tall with grey hair and police have said he is "vulnerable". At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a green jacket with a light blue check shirt and jeans.

    A Derbyshire Police spokesman added: "Maurice's health is our primary concern and we don't believe he is able to find his own way home."

    League Two side Port Vale have re-signed ex-Valiants defender Joe Davis from Fleetwood on a two-year deal.

    The 23-year-old has negotiated his release from League One Fleetwood, where he was still under contract.

    They have also signed Burton Albion goalkeeper Sam Hornby, 22, also on a two-year deal - the second keeper to move to Vale Park in as many days.

    Hornby, who was offered a new deal to stay with the Brewers, is yet to make his Football League debut.

    The clothing and homeware retailer Next is no longer Leicestershire's highest earning business.

    The Enderby-based company has fallen into third place, with property developers Barratt Homes and car dealers Sytner Group taking the top two spots.

    In 2015, shares in Next rose to £80 but since then they've halved.

    Nas Harrison, a business and marketing lecturer at De Montfort University, told the BBC many shoppers are now choosing cheaper brands.

    The University of Nottingham has announced £200m of funding for research that could create about 500 jobs locally.

    Six different projects will examine issues such as modern day slavery, greener transport and sustainable food supplies.

    Professor David Salt will head up the Future Food group analysing how crops can grow in hotter climates.

    He said: "We are now approaching an era where our climate is less predictable so what we need to do is develop plants which can actually cope with variability."

    Three people have been arrested by police investigating the circumcision of a three-month-old boy.

    A 61-year-old man, believed to be the doctor who carried out the procedure, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

    The boy's mother complained to police saying her son was circumcised without her consent while staying with his paternal grandparents, in July 2013.

    A 44-year-old man and a woman, 47, have also been arrested.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

    All three people have been released pending further investigation.

  9. Plans to build Ashbourne bypass 'progressing'published at 08:43 British Summer Time 22 June 2017

    Plans to build a new road around Ashbourne are progressing despite the pressure of getting extra funding.

    Seven years ago, a north/south bypass around Ashbourne, relieving pressure on the A515, was costed at between £6m and £8m.

    Now Derbyshire County Council says the bill is likely to be north of £15m, and as hard as it will be to squeeze the money out of the government, the council says it will be even harder if they've done no planning.

    They want to start that, bringing in consultants to outline possible routes.

    A spokesman for Bingham Fire Station has said, external firefighters were called to Fairfield Street after a car overturned yesterday.

    The station added no-one was seriously injured.

    Police have told the BBC it follows a report of an injured man near the railway station around 01:00 BST.

    The man was taken to hospital - it's thought his injuries may be self-inflicted.

  12. Teenager's death in Mansfield 'no longer murder'published at 08:21 British Summer Time 22 June 2017

    The death of a teenage girl - which was initially being investigated as murder - is no longer being treated as suspicious, police have said.

    The 17-year-old's body was found at a house on Foston Close, Mansfield, at 01:45 BST on Wednesday, after concerns were raised about her safety.

    A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has since been released and is now assisting officers.

    Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection to the death.

    Police have confirmed they are now treating the death of a 60-year-old man found at a house in New Parks in Leicester as suspicious.

    The body of Peter West was found at a property in Glazebrook Road on Tuesday.

    A 35-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man - who were arrested on suspicion of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body - have since been rearrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
