Earlier this week a so called "monster fatberg" was discovered in a sewer beneath the streets of London.

It weighed around 130 tonnes and was made up of things like cooking oil, nappies, condoms and baby wipes.

This discovery has led to Severn Trent Water reminding people in the East Midlands not to put items like this down the toilet or sink.

    Amy Woodfield

Glider Chris Armstrong died following the crash near Lubenham in December.

The 70-year-old had been flying in a northerly direction and turned right in the direction of the airfield. There was then about 24 seconds between finishing the turn and the collision.

The Civil Aviation Authority has said before this crash there had been 11 mid-air collisions involving gliders in the UK since 2006. This had resulted in one death.

Following the crash the authority has encouraged aircraft to fit Electronic Conspicuity devices - increasing the ability to detect other aircraft in the area. The glider already had this technology.

  8. Jailed man 'trapped' in prison to be freedpublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    BBC Radio Nottingham

The family of a man who has served 11 years in prison for what was a 10-month sentence have welcomed the news that he will be freed.

James Ward, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, was jailed in 2006 after getting into a fight with his father Bill, but after he set fire to his prison bed the 32-year-old was given an Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence.

IPPs have no release date and were abolished by then-justice secretary Ken Clarke in 2012, but more than 3,000 people in England and Wales are still serving them.

April, Mr Ward’s sister, said the family is “very excited” to hear he will be released, but said it was “heartbreaking” about 3,000 people are still serving similar sentences.

    Quote Message

I can’t explain the relief – it’s been 11 years of pure hell, of fighting to try and show people that this sentence is barbaric. It’s a ridiculous sentence, and that’s why it was abolished.
